Business Product Owner, Claims Systems

Summary:

The Business Product Owner (BPO) serves as the strategic lead for intake management within the business domain working directly with Client Management, Claims Operations, Product & Planning, Configuration, and Technology teams to deliver solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, and customer experience. This role acts as the voice of the business ensuring that stakeholder requests are clearly defined and aligned with enterprise goals before transitioning to the Product and Planning team for Agile and Kan Ban execution. The BPO focuses on business requirements, stakeholder alignment, and intake governance while partnering with the Product and Planning team on prioritization and planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Partners with Product and Planning on prioritization of the Claims backlog to align with business objectives and strategic initiatives.

  • Support intake governance and escalation protocols.

  • Oversee the refine of business requirements, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success measures.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between Claims Operations, Product & Planning, Configuration, and Technology teams.

  • Partners with Product and Planning Technical Product Owner (TPO) to act as the voice of the customer and business throughout discovery, development, testing, and implementation.

  • Facilitate stakeholder alignment, prioritization discussions, and decision-making to maximize business value.

  • Ensure backlog items meet Definition of Ready standards and support successful delivery outcomes.

  • Analyze operational data, business metrics, and customer feedback to identify improvement opportunities and measure outcomes.

  • Identify risks, dependencies, and process improvement opportunities, driving continuous improvement across product backlog and workflows.

  • Participate in Agile planning events, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and other team ceremonies.

Minimum Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.

  • CSPO, SAFe POPM, or equivalent Product Owner certification

  • Experience in healthcare claims operations, claims systems, or related payer business functions.

  • Experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, Product Manager, or similar role supporting technology-enabled business solutions.

  • Strong knowledge of Agile and Kan Ban methodologies and backlog management practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to gather requirements, define business value, and translate complex business needs into actionable solutions.

  • Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, communication, and relationship-building skills.

  • Experience using Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, or similar Agile and Kan Ban planning and collaboration tools.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

  • Experience with claims adjudication, benefit configuration, provider reimbursement, or healthcare technology platforms.

  • Experience supporting large-scale operational, system, or transformation initiatives

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 93,200 - 155,400 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
