Full job description

The North America Payroll Manager is responsible for leading end-to-end payroll operations for the US and Canada, ensuring payroll is processed accurately, timely, and in compliance with applicable policies and requirements. The role provides strong payroll expertise and oversight across payroll processing, complex transactions, pay-related data changes, approvals, audits, reconciliations, controls, and issue resolution. The Payroll Manager drives continuous improvement and operational efficiency through process standardization, optimization, and LEAN principles, while strengthening payroll controls and service delivery. The role also leads and develops the payroll team through effective workforce and capacity planning, training, coaching, and technical guidance to build a high-performing payroll organization.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-End Payroll Operations : Bring strong payroll expertise and hands-on knowledge of payroll processing to ensure employees are paid accurately, timely, and compliantly, including oversight of payroll inputs, calculations, interfaces, reconciliations, controls, and issue resolution.

  • Drive Payroll Operational Excellence : Build and lead a strong, efficient payroll operation with clear processes, controls, accountability, and performance standards, while continuously identifying opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, and improve payroll delivery.

  • Lead & Develop a High-Performing Payroll Team: Provide strong day-to-day leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to the payroll team, ensuring the right capabilities, capacity, and ownership are in place to deliver consistent, high-quality results.

Minimum required Education:

Minimum required Experience:

Minimum 5 years of experience with Bachelor's in areas such as Human Resources, Organizational Transformation, Process Optimization, Payroll Management, Accounting, HR Technology and Digitization, Recruiting or equivalent OR no prior experience required with Master's Degree.

Minimum required Certification:

Certified Payroll Professional certification

  • You’ve acquired 5+ years of experience with Bachelor's in areas such as Human Resources, Organizational Transformation, Process Optimization, Payroll Management, Accounting, HR Technology and Digitization, Recruiting or equivalent OR no prior experience required with Master's Degree. Minimum required certification as a Certified Payroll Professional.

  • Your skills include exempt/non-exempt/non-union/union payroll; people management (team of 8+); experience using Workday (time-tracking) and ADP for payroll; and full understanding of payroll systems and policies. Additional experience with 401K, bonus!

  • You have a Bachelor's/ Master's Degree in Human Resources, Communications, Business Administration, Organization Development or equivalent.

  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

Philips Transparency Details

The pay range for this position in Plymouth, Minnesota is $93,000 to $148,000.

The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.

In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives, may be offered. Employees are eligible to participate in our comprehensive Philips Total Rewards benefits program, which includes a generous PTO, 401k (up to 7% match), HSA (with company contribution), stock purchase plan, education reimbursement and much more. At Philips, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each case.

Company relocation benefits will not be provided for this position. For this position, you must reside in or within commuting distance to Nashville, TN.
