Job Description Summary

Job Description

Business Overview

GE Aerospace’s Defense Engines & Services organization is the provider of choice for combat and trainer engines, rotorcraft and turboprop engines, mobility engines (tankers/transport), and marine gas turbines for the U.S. Armed Forces and its allies. Our team is responsible for design, manufacturing, and assembly of the engines on which the military depends, along with a vast array of services and support to approximately 30,000 engines in the field.

Role Overview

Have you ever wondered what makes a turbofan engine so cool? Some people think it's the fan, or the high- or low-pressure turbines, or the combustor, or even the augmentor (on military engines).

On my team, we think it's the logic and software that stitch all those subsystems together to form a cohesive operating machine - one that can readily respond to pilot inputs while still providing safe and fuel-efficient thrust to complete the mission. This logic also provides diagnostic and prognostic capabilities to better support our customers' fleet needs.

In this role we design, develop, validate and certify new engine control strategies to deliver innovative products for exciting Military applications; we also support legacy, fielded product needs -- investigating field events and evaluating potential solutions to provide more robust, reliable engine operation.

If you have a passion for delivering integrated hardware and software solutions I'd encourage you to come check out some of the really interesting projects that we are delivering.

Roles and Responsibilities

In this role you can expect to have the following responsibilities depending on the phase(s) of the program(s) that you are supporting:

  • Execute the design, development, and test of advanced Controls Systems technologies to meet business standards and program / product requirements.

  • Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers.

  • Manage internal and external suppliers.

  • Work with teams to address organizational initiatives.

  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.

  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

  • Track project progress and report out on resource needs, spend, and progress towards deliverables.

  • Mentor other engineers in Controls Systems and Transient Design disciplines

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering field from an accredited university or college

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience related to Aircraft Engine Controls Systems and/or Software Engineering

  • This role requires the successful candidate to maintain a US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. Citizenship. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold US Government Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret U.S. government security clearance

  • Demonstrates the initiative to explore alternate technology and approaches to solving problems

  • Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts

  • Demonstrates awareness about competitors and industry trends

  • Has the ability to analyze impact of technology choices

  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink, Python or NPSS Simulation tools. Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, BEACON

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a structured team environment

  • Passion to develop Aircraft Engine Controls methodologies including hardware & software integration, requirements development and documentation, logic design, development and validation, and providing support for the product software release process

  • Ability to take ownership of small and medium sized tasks and deliver while mentoring and helping team members

  • Ensures understanding of issues and presents clear rationale. Able to speak to mutual needs and win-win solutions. Uses two-way communication to influence outcomes and ongoing results.

  • Identifies misalignments with goals, objectives, and work direction against the organizational strategy and makes suggestions to course-correct
