Full job description

Before a system can change, someone needs to understand what the business actually needs.

As a Senior IT Business Analyst with the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), you'll help financial and technical teams prepare for Washington's One Washington and Workday transition. You'll analyze existing processes, identify what needs to change, and turn business needs into requirements developers can use.

Your value is in asking the questions that prevent the wrong solution from being built.

Much of your week will involve facilitating discussions, studying workflows, documenting requirements, and identifying gaps between current systems and Workday. You'll work with developers to clarify expectations and support business teams as they test proposed solutions.

We encourage you to apply if you can turn complex conversations into clear, actionable requirements. You ask thoughtful questions, recognize how changes affect related processes, and help people with different perspectives reach a shared understanding. Experience with financial applications will help you identify risks and practical solutions.

Your first 90 days are about learning DSHS financial processes, existing applications, and the One Washington project. You'll build relationships, facilitate requirements discussions, and begin documenting workflows and change impacts.

Within your first year, success means business needs are understood, requirements are clear, and technical teams have the information needed to deliver effective solutions.

The opportunity comes with a defined timeline.

This is a one-year project position, with a possible extension dependent on additional funding. You'll work Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with at least two days each week at Office Building 2 during your first three months. No additional travel is expected. The Olympia area offers access to waterfront recreation, parks, and trails, although wet winters and commuting conditions are worth considering.
