Full job description
Anthro Energy is hiring its first Head of People to build a talent engine for a growing battery company. Anthro develops advanced battery technology and is scaling from R&D labs into manufacturing, with a team that spans scientists, engineers, technicians and business staff across multiple sites. We're hiring a strategic, business-minded Head of People to build and lead our people function as we scale the company and double our headcount in the next 12-18 months. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance and serving on the leadership team, you'll shape Anthro's culture and talent strategy and act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and executive team. Initially, you'll be our people team of one: a hands-on leader who owns recruiting, partners closely with managers, and builds a people function that spans the full employee lifecycle. Talent is the heart of this role, so we need someone who can find and close exceptional people while holding the line on fairness and quality as we grow. What you'll do
- Build and lead Anthro's people function end to end, translating business priorities into a people strategy that scales with the company.
- Own talent acquisition across all functions and geographies, from scientists and engineers to manufacturing technicians, designing a hiring process that is rigorous, efficient and equitable.
- Serve as a strategic partner to leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, performance and employee relations.
- Develop our managers through hands-on coaching and practical frameworks that strengthen leadership across the company.
- Design and run core people programs, including onboarding, performance management, compensation and equity, benefits and LOAs.
- Establish scalable HR operations and ensure compliance across sites and states, from policies and the employee handbook to HR systems.
- Cultivate a culture grounded in excellence, fairness and accountability as we scale from R&D into manufacturing.
- Bring data and rigor to people decisions, defining the metrics that show how the organization is performing.
- Build out a small but mighty people team, and leverage external resources to fill gaps.
Requirements
Who you are
- Rigorous and detail-oriented. You bring precision to everything you touch, from offer letters to equity grants, and you catch what others overlook.
- Intellectually curious. You are a continuous learner who seeks to understand the business deeply and is always refining your craft.
- Analytical and fact-driven. You ground decisions in data, benchmarks and sound reasoning rather than opinion.
- Direct and grounded. You communicate with clarity and candor, and you are as credible on the factory floor as you are in the exec meeting.
- Principled under pressure. You hold the line on standards and policies when it matters, and you don't shy away from difficult conversations.
- Unwavering integrity. You consistently do the right thing and apply fairness principles evenly across the organization.
- Committed to excellence. You set a high bar for yourself and the company, and you take pride in getting the details right.
What you bring
- 8+ years in HR or People roles, including time as the first or only people leader at a startup.
- Broad generalist experience: you have experience across the employee life cycle, from recruiting and employee relations to compensation, performance and compliance.
- Comfort being a team of one, rolling up your sleeves on the details while also thinking strategically.
- A strong recruiting track record, including hiring technical talent.
- Experience in hardware, deep tech or manufacturing, including supporting hourly employees across multiple eStates and sites.
- Experience scaling a company from 100 to 300+ employees.
- Multi-state employment experience is a plus.
