About the Role & Program:

ABC11-WTVD is launching a newly combined Community Engagement and Marketing internship for Spring 2027, designed for students who want to understand how a local television station connects with audiences beyond the broadcast through community partnerships, digital storytelling, and strategic marketing initiatives.

This role sits at the intersection of two functions that increasingly work together to strengthen the station's relationship with the communities it serves. The Marketing Department serves as the station’s internal advertising agency, with News as its primary client, promoting content and the ABC11 brand across multiple platforms. The Community Engagement Department collaborates with community organizations and leaders to highlight and address local needs, priorities, and events.

This is an ideal opportunity for a student interested in communications, marketing, digital media, public relations, or community engagement who wants to see how audience growth and community impact work together in a modern media organization.

This internship is a part-time, six-month commitment in Durham, NC from January 2027 – June 2027.

What You Will Do:

On any given day you might cover the following for the departments:

Community Engagement:

  • Help coordinate the ABC11 Speakers Bureau, including talent appearances and community speaking engagements.

  • Support social media postings for community-focused and sponsored events to promote station initiatives and community partnerships.

  • Assist with the planning and execution of community engagement initiatives, interviews, partner events, and onsite activations

Marketing:

  • Write, shoot, edit, and produce marketing content while maintaining ABC11 brand consistency across platforms including television, social media, streaming platforms and event activations.

  • Produce news graphics, maps, and other elements that support daily newscast production.

  • Work with marketing department to determine AI workflow and content creation efficiencies.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Canva or similar content creation tools

  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and professional communication skills

  • Experience using social media platforms to engage with an audience

  • Working experience with Adobe Premiere and Photoshop

Education:

  • College Junior or Senior preferred

  • Major or previous coursework in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Business Administration, or related major preferred

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information:

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.

  • Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Possess unrestricted work authorization

Additional Information:

  • Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship

  • Fully available from January 2027 through June 2027

  • Fully available onsite, from Monday-Friday with the option for weekend events for the duration of the internship, 18 hours each week

  • Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship program in the Raleigh/Durham, NC area

  • Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work Raleigh/Durham, NC area

The pay rate for this role in Noth Carolina is $20.00 per hour.
