Sr. Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support a mission-driven non-profit organization through a contract assignment. This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented accountant who can manage core accounting activities with a high level of independence while partnering with financial leadership. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement and the opportunity to contribute to accurate reporting, strong controls, and a well-run close process.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day general ledger activity and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.

• Prepare and post journal entries to support routine accounting operations and period-end reporting.

• Lead key aspects of the month-end close cycle, including reviewing balances and resolving discrepancies.

• Complete account reconciliations and maintain organized supporting schedules for balance sheet accounts.

• Perform bank reconciliations and investigate variances to ensure cash activity is fully accounted for.

• Assist in producing financial statements and other accounting reports for internal review.

• Help strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls to support consistency and compliance.

• Partner with auditors and respond to documentation requests during audit-related activities. Requirements • Demonstrated experience in senior-level accounting work, including ownership of general ledger processes.

• Strong background in month-end close, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation.

• Hands-on experience completing bank reconciliations and researching unreconciled items.

• Ability to work independently and manage accounting responsibilities with minimal oversight.

• Familiarity with financial reporting and maintaining accurate supporting documentation.

• Understanding of internal controls and audit support responsibilities.

• Experience in a non-profit environment or a mission-focused organization is preferred.

• Exposure to accounting platforms such as Blackbaud, Bill.com, or similar systems is a plus.
