About the Role:

The Senior Accountant II will play a key role in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end General Ledger closing and financial reporting processes. The ideal candidate will have a solid finance/accounting background, in-depth knowledge of accounting principles, strong analytical, detail-oriented, and problem-solving skills, and ideally a good understanding of retail business. Exceptional organizational skills are a must to meet tight deadlines of this role. This role reports to the Sr. Manager-Corporate Accounting.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Journal Entries & Close: Prepare month-end journal entries for accrued expenses, prepaids, and related areas.

  • Payroll Accounting: Prepare and review payroll-related journal entries, including wage accruals, bonus and incentive accruals, payroll tax liabilities, and benefits-related entries. Reconcile payroll GL accounts to payroll system reports, research and resolve discrepancies, and partner with HR/Payroll teams to ensure accurate and timely recording of payroll costs each period.

  • Corporate Insurance Accounting: Maintain accounting for corporate insurance programs, including recording premium expense amortization, self-insurance reserves, and claims-related accruals. Reconcile insurance-related balance sheet accounts and partner with Risk Management/Legal to ensure coverage changes, renewals, and claims activity are properly reflected in the financials.

  • Reconciliations: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts using tools like FloQast to protect financial data integrity and support a clean, well-documented close.

  • Compliance: Ensure all accounting tasks follow US GAAP and applicable regulatory standards, including payroll, liquor license, and insurance-related reporting requirements.

  • Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audit requirements, including preparing schedules and supporting documentation for payroll and insurance-related accounts.

  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy in payroll and insurance accounting processes, including reconciliation templates and close procedures.

About The Pay:

  • Base Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000 Annually

  • Final compensation will be determined based upon experience and skills and may vary based on location.

About You:

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • 3 years of experience, preference to combination of both private industry and public accounting.

  • Strong background in general ledger functions and month-end close processes, with prior exposure to payroll accounting and/or corporate insurance accounting preferred.

  • Proficiency in financial software like SAP, advanced Microsoft Excel, FloQast; experience with UKG a plus.

  • Solid understanding of US GAAP and accounting regulations, including familiarity with payroll requirements and insurance accounting concepts (premium amortization, self-insurance reserves, claims accruals).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with HR, Payroll, Audit, FP&A, and Risk Management teams.
