Full job description
We are looking for a talented Product Engineering Advisor to join our Cummins Inc. team in Shoreview, MN .
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
-
Lead the integration of advanced microgrid technologies, including BESS, fuel cells, PV systems, generator sets, and microgrid controllers, to deliver reliable and efficient energy solutions.

Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to drive high-quality product decisions across the product development lifecycle.

Develop electrical system designs and single-line diagrams that align customer requirements with business and technical objectives.

Guide technical project execution by balancing system performance, quality, cost, risk, and regulatory compliance considerations.

Drive problem resolution efforts by identifying root causes and implementing robust solutions that improve product reliability and customer outcomes.

Champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance design processes, engineering standards, and product performance.

Support customer and sales engagements by providing technical expertise during solution development and project planning discussions.

Mentor engineers and project teams while fostering collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence across the organization.
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

Demonstrated expertise in product development, systems engineering, and technology integration, with the ability to translate customer needs into effective technical solutions.

Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with experience managing complexity, evaluating trade-offs, and making sound engineering decisions.

Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, influence stakeholders, and communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Proven success in developing and validating electrical or energy system solutions while ensuring compliance with applicable standards and requirements.

Collaborative leadership mindset with a passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and developing technical talent.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Demonstrated success having worked in a Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering role on lower complexity product development activities, translating customer needs and negotiating into product development plans, technical profiles and/or product specifications with a proven track record of successful product decisions.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Key Competencies:

Preferred Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with experience supporting sales teams, commissioning engineers, project managers, and customers throughout project execution.

Design and develop integrated microgrid solutions utilizing battery energy storage systems (BESS), photovoltaic (PV) systems, fuel cells, generator sets, switchgear lineups, and microgrid controllers.

Utilize AutoCAD to create electrical single-line diagrams and technical documentation for fully integrated microgrid systems.

Apply knowledge of electrical system architecture, inverter/converter technologies, controls, networking, and data acquisition systems to support solution development.

Collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to interpret technical requirements and develop innovative, scalable energy solutions.

Guide suppliers and project teams through system packaging, integration, and implementation activities while maintaining project quality, schedule, and cost objectives.

Drive safety, reliability, and performance improvements by identifying opportunities to optimize existing products and engineering processes.

Leverage structured problem-solving methodologies and continuous improvement principles; Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred.

Experience with third-party controller and power management software platforms such as Deif or ComAp preferred.

Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, manage multiple priorities, build strong stakeholder relationships, and deliver results in complex technical environments.
