Position Description

TheDepartment of Communication Studies (https://www.commstudies.txst.edu/) at Texas State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Instructional Communication. Candidates’ teaching and research expertise should include instructional communication, and we welcome candidates employing a range of methodological approaches. This tenure-track position will involve teaching, research, and service responsibilities, primarily in-person at the San Marcos campus. Employment will begin inAugust 2027.

Required Qualifications

• A PhD in Communication Studies or a communication-related field.

• Specialization in instructional communication.

• Preparedness to teach instructional communication and other courses in complementary areas at the university level (listed below).

• A record of departmental, university, professional, or community service.

Preferred Qualifications

• Sustained and impactful peer-reviewed, published scholarship.

• Evidence of preparation to teach graduate-level research methods (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, rhetorical, etc.)

• Teaching and/or research expertise in one or more complementary areas, such as interpersonal communication, nonverbal communication, small group communication, service-learning, or applied communication.

• Experience with or potential for external grant funding.
