Your Opportunity

We are seeking a Computational Designer, Data Centers & Advanced Manufacturing Projects Specialist to join Stantec’s Design Computing team—an applied technology group at the forefront of computational design, automation, and design technology innovation. This multidisciplinary role will support one of our fastest-growing sectors, Mission Critical and Advanced Manufacturing, by identifying and delivering high-value automations across architecture, electrical, mechanical, and other building systems that improve speed, reliability, coordination, and project delivery across technically complex work.

The successful candidate will work directly with practitioners and project teams to understand how work is being delivered today, identify opportunities for automation, and translate those needs into practical computational workflows. They will build and validate proofs of concept, test them against real project conditions, and collaborate with developers and enterprise digital teams to help turn successful prototypes into scalable firmwide capabilities. A curiosity for AI-assisted workflows, rapid prototyping, and emerging coding methods will be valuable as the team continues to explore faster ways to move from idea to tested solution.

While the immediate focus is on Mission Critical and Advanced Manufacturing sectors, this role is expected to uncover opportunities that extend into other sectors as repeatable automations, patterns, and delivery methods prove their value across the firm.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Design Integration

  • Apply computational design methods to mission critical, advanced manufacturing, and other technically complex building projects.

  • Develop parametric and data-driven workflows that connect geometry, program, planning criteria, engineering inputs, equipment layouts, system requirements, performance criteria, and documentation outputs.

  • Support early design exploration, option studies, layout evaluation, and decision-making through practical computational methods.

  • Work across architecture, electrical, mechanical, structural, and digital delivery teams to improve coordination, reduce manual rework, and increase design clarity.

  • Turn project-specific challenges into repeatable workflows that can be reused across future projects and sectors.

Automation, BIM & Digital Delivery

  • Lead practitioner and project-team conversations to identify high-value automation opportunities.

  • Build Revit-based automations using Dynamo, Rhino.Inside.Revit, Grasshopper, Python, C#, the Revit API, or related workflows, with significant focus likely on electrical and mechanical design, coordination, documentation, and data tasks.

  • Automate repetitive design, analysis, QA/QC, documentation, modeling, and data-management tasks where they improve speed, reliability, or coordination across disciplines.

  • Build, test, and validate proofs of concept against real project needs and conditions.

  • Partner with developers, Digital Practice, Digital Delivery, IT, and platform teams to move successful prototypes toward scalable firmwide tools, templates, or reusable automation patterns.

Specialist Support for Data Centers & Industrial Projects

  • Support planning, test-fit, modularization, spatial coordination, MEP systems coordination, equipment layouts, and repeatable documentation workflows for high-complexity technical projects.

  • Structure project data so teams can make faster, clearer decisions across disciplines and phases.

  • Help teams evaluate tradeoffs related to layout, coordination, performance, delivery speed, and constructability.

  • Identify opportunities to standardize computational workflows across recurring project types, building systems, and client delivery requirements.

  • Support workflow scoping, internal training, and hands-on implementation for teams adopting computational methods.

Value, Metrics & Communication

  • Measure and communicate the value of computational design through outcomes such as hours saved, reduced rework, faster iteration, improved coordination, risk reduction, and delivery quality.

  • Translate technical work into clear project and business language for project managers, discipline leads, clients, and firm leadership.

  • Support pursuits, proposals, and internal case studies by showing how automation and computational design improve delivery for mission critical and advanced manufacturing sectors.

  • Document workflows, lessons learned, and reusable patterns so successful methods can be adopted by other teams.

Capabilities & Qualifications

Required

  • Advanced expertise preferred in Rhino: Grasshopper and Revit: Dynamo for computational and parametric design and/or experience with Rhino.Inside.Revit, Speckle, Revit API, or lightweight internal applications.

  • Strong experience with Revit and BIM-integrated computational workflows.

  • Professional experience applying computational design on data centers, mission critical projects, advanced manufacturing, or similarly complex technical building projects.

  • Proficiency in scripting or programming, such as Python, C#, JavaScript, or related languages, with an emphasis on reliability, maintainability, and project usability.

  • Ability to work across disciplines and translate architectural, electrical, mechanical, engineering, and project delivery requirements into actionable computational frameworks.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical work in practical project, delivery, and business terms.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with data center or industrial project workflows, including electrical and mechanical systems coordination, repeatable planning modules, technical documentation, or fast-track delivery environments.

  • Engineering background or experience working closely with engineering teams is a strong plus, especially in electrical or mechanical building systems, but is not required.

  • Experience partnering with enterprise digital, IT, BIM, or platform teams to move prototypes into supported workflows.

  • Background in systems thinking, process improvement, or workflow standardization for multidisciplinary design teams.

  • Experience mentoring designers, engineers, or project teams in computational design methods.

  • Proven ability to develop reusable computational workflows that improve project delivery beyond a single task or one-off script.

Education & Experience

A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of five years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience

4+ years of professional experience applying computational design within an architectural, engineering, industrial, mission critical, or integrated multidisciplinary design practice preferred.

Demonstrated experience supporting data center, industrial, mission critical, advanced manufacturing, or other technically complex projects.

Professional licensure is a plus (architecture, engineering, etc)

Why This Role Matters

Data center and industrial projects require fast, coordinated, technically rigorous design processes. This role helps Stantec make computational design a practical delivery advantage by embedding automation, data, and computational thinking directly into project workflows.

  • Work more seamlessly across architecture, electrical, mechanical, engineering, and digital delivery teams.

  • Improve speed, clarity, and coordination on technically complex projects.

  • Turn project-specific computational methods into repeatable delivery capability.

  • Demonstrate the measurable value of computational design to project leaders, clients, and firm leadership.

This position is ideal for a computational designer who wants to shape how complex technical projects are designed and delivered—not just how individual tools are built.

Please submit a portfolio of work along with your application for this role.
