Scope of Job

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley seeks applications for an Assistant Professor in Voice to join the School of Music beginning Fall 2027. Primary teaching responsibilities include applied voice lessons, opera workshop, and other related courses as assigned by the Director of the School of Music.

The successful candidate will be expected to collegially participate in recruitment, community engagement, and service activities appropriate to their assigned teaching load.

Faculty at UTRGV are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success; toadvancingthe missions of the university, college, and academic program; and to supporting UTRGV’s vision, mission, and core priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate in Vocal Performance or related field. Applicants will be considered if the degree will be completed by July 1, 2027.

Active performer with potential for continued growth in this area.

Preferred Qualifications

A record of successful teaching and recruitment at the university level, working with students from diverse backgrounds. Experience leading opera workshop productions. Applicants should demonstrate a record of, and potential for continued growth in, creative activities, including vocal performance and scholarship.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
