Assistant Professor (Tenure track) Adult Health Nursing

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Nursing at Lehman College, City University of New York, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Adult Health/Medical-Surgical Nursing beginning Spring 2027. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in nursing education at the undergraduate and graduate levels and an active or developing program of research and scholarship consistent with their area of expertise.

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate nursing courses in multiple modalities, including in-person, hybrid, and online formats.

  • Teaching assignments may include daytime, evening, weekend and online courses based on departmental needs.

  • Advise and mentor undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students.

  • Maintain an active program of scholarship and dissemination appropriate to a tenure-track faculty appointment.

  • Participate in curriculum development, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement.

  • Provide service to the Department, College, University, profession, and community.

The Department of Nursing and is currently housed in the School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing (HS2N). The School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing currently includes six departments: Exercise Science and Recreation; Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences; Health Equity, Administration & Technology; Social Work; Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, and Nursing. The school is also home to the CUNY Institute for Health Equity. Departments in the School actively engage with community and government partners to support evidence-based practices and health equity, with a special emphasis on urban populations. The faculty are also strongly committed to high-quality teaching and preparation of ethical and skilled health and human service professionals.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC POSITION DETAILS

The Lehman College campus is located in the Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic-serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The Department of Nursing provides education for nursing students at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. The teaching load is 18 credit hours over a 9-month appointment. Student advisement is required, (minimum of 3 hours per week during the academic year). Attendance at staff development opportunities, as well as participation in department and school-wide meetings, is expected. The qualified candidate must perform additional service to the College, University, and community. This role includes spearheading program specific-professional development initiatives for undergraduate students. Undergraduate scholar mentorship is encouraged. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship and professional development support.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D., EdD., DNS degree with experience in Nursing or related discipline or a related academic field is required on commencement of the appointment. Must have a baccalaureate and master degree in nursing. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in New York State at time of appointment. Strong evidence of successful teaching in adult health nursing. Demonstrated scholarship and dissemination of scholarship through publications and/or, presentations, etc. Ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Active involvement in professional organizations and sincere commitment to student success.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Clinical expertise and recent practice experience in adult health/medical-surgical nursing.

  • College or university teaching experience in undergraduate and/or graduate nursing education.

  • Experience with simulation, technology-enhanced learning, online/hybrid education, and/or innovative teaching strategies.

  • Evidence of, or potential for, a sustained program of scholarship and dissemination.

  • Experience with curriculum development, program evaluation, nursing accreditation, and/or continuous quality improvement.

  • Experience mentoring students in scholarly, research, or evidence-based practice activities.

  • Evidence of nurse leadership in accreditation, faculty professional development in leading nurse research teams

COMPENSATION

Assistant Professor $109,025-$112,841.

Salaries are commensurate with education and relevant experience and are subject to the Professional Staff Congress-CUNY salary schedule (http://www.psc-cuny.org/contract/psc-cuny-contract-salary-schedule).
