POSITION SUMMARY:

Advanced Energy is seeking a Director of IT Business Operations & PMO to transform how the global IT organization prioritizes investments, governs delivery, and turns portfolio information into action.

Reporting directly to the EVP & CIO, this leader will balance two connected mandates: lead a business-oriented IT PMO and strengthen the IT leadership team’s operating model. The Director will establish clear visibility into priorities, progress, risks, dependencies, resources, and financial considerations.

The role also owns selected IT business operations, including leadership governance, executive and Board communications, budget coordination, cross-functional follow-through, and process improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

PMO and Portfolio Transformation

  • Transform the IT PMO into a business-oriented function focused on decisions, delivery, and measurable value.

  • Maintain a decision-ready view of the IT portfolio, including priorities, progress, risks, dependencies, resources, and financial considerations.

  • Establish proportionate governance based on each initiative’s size, complexity, risk, and business impact.

  • Partner with IT leaders to assign clear delivery ownership and determine which initiatives require dedicated project management.

  • Govern a portfolio of approximately 10–15 major or complex IT initiatives through the PMO and accountable delivery leaders.

  • Strengthen ownership, escalation, risk management, and delivery predictability across the portfolio.

  • Lead and develop a geographically distributed project management team.

IT Operating and Financial Discipline

  • Oversee the custom platform used to manage projects, resources, and time.

  • Improve the accuracy and usefulness of portfolio, resource, time, and financial information.

  • Partner with Finance and IT leaders to strengthen project financial tracking, budget visibility, forecasting, and resource planning.

  • Simplify and automate PMO and IT operational processes.

  • Translate portfolio data into concise insights and recommendations for IT leadership.

Executive Governance and Communications

  • Establish an effective operating rhythm for strategic, operational, and weekly IT leadership meetings.

  • Convert leadership decisions into clear ownership, actions, and follow-through.

  • Partner with CIO staff and subject-matter experts to develop executive and Board-level presentations.

  • Translate complex technology information into concise, business-oriented narratives.

  • Drive priorities and initiatives that span IT functions or lack a natural organizational owner.

  • Oversee selected IT budget-tracking, financial coordination, and administrative processes.

  • Lead the team supporting IT financial and business operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Location: Denver, Colorado. On-site/in office role at AE Headquarters.

  • Environment: Typical Office Environment.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Required

  • Demonstrated ability to apply project and portfolio disciplines proportionately rather than through a one-size-fits-all methodology.

  • Ability to influence peers and senior leaders without relying on formal authority.

  • Strong strategic planning, governance, and organizational leadership capabilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Leadership Profile

  • Puts business value and outcomes ahead of process while applying governance where it reduces risk.

  • Balances strategic perspective with disciplined attention to operational detail.

  • Builds trust through collaboration, credibility, and sound judgment.

  • Challenges established practices constructively and influences without formal authority.

  • Communicates complex information clearly, directly, and for the intended audience.

  • Brings curiosity, adaptability, ownership, and energy to improving how the organization operates.

EXPERIENCE:

Required

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in an IT PMO, technology portfolio management, program management, or a related IT function.

  • Experience leading complex technology initiatives across functions and stakeholder groups.

  • Experience with project budgets, resource planning, portfolio reporting, or IT financial management.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting a CIO or senior IT leadership team.

  • Experience developing executive or Board-level technology communications.

  • Experience transforming or redesigning an established PMO.

  • Experience working across cultures and time zones in a global technology organization.

  • Experience with portfolio, resource-management, financial-management, or time-reporting systems.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Technology, Engineering, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

COMPENSATION:

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
