Position Overview

Job Title: Postdoctoral Associate/Research Scientist

Office/Location: SUNY Polytechnic Institute

The AE&RFC Research Center at SUNY Polytechnic Institute invites applications for visiting scholar and postdoctoral researcher positions in radio-frequency (RF), microwave, millimeter-wave, and terahertz (THz) engineering. Research may span passive and active circuits and components, from electromagnetic structures and networks to amplifier design, as well as device and material characterization. The positions offer opportunities for computational and experimental research, scholarly publications, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional development.

Research Areas

RF, Microwave, Millimeter-Wave, and THz Circuit Design

  • Design and simulation of passive circuits and components, including filters, matching networks, couplers, resonators, transmission structures, and antennas.

  • Design, simulation, and optimization of active circuits, including low-noise, power, and other high-frequency amplifiers, as well as associated biasing and matching networks.

  • Electromagnetic, circuit-level, and system-level modeling; integration of passive and active building blocks using applicable design and co-simulation tools.

High-Frequency Devices, Materials, and Measurement

  • Modeling and experimental characterization of RF through THz devices, circuits, materials, sensors, and related structures.

  • Use of relevant RF/microwave/THz measurement methods and instrumentation to validate designs and models.

Emerging RF and THz Systems and Applications

  • Research on high-frequency sensing, communication, and reconfigurable electromagnetic structures, including passive or active reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), as relevant to project needs.

  • Interdisciplinary applications involving electronics, photonics, materials, and quantum technologies, as appropriate to the researcher's expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and develop models, designs, or experimental methods for RF through THz circuits, components, devices, and systems.

  • Design and evaluate passive structures and/or active circuits, including amplifiers, according to project objectives and the candidate's expertise.

  • Perform simulations, measurements, and design validation; analyze results and improve performance.

  • Collaborate with faculty, students, and research partners on interdisciplinary projects.

  • Publish and present research findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

  • Contribute to research proposals and support undergraduate and graduate student research activities.

  • Perform related duties that advance the research mission of the AE&RFC Research Center.

The position is based in Utica, NY.

This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual checks.

Salary: $65,000/Annually

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

  • Demonstrated research experience in one or more areas of RF, microwave, millimeter-wave, or THz engineering, such as passive or active circuit design, electromagnetic modeling, devices, or experimental characterization.

  • Experience with relevant design, simulation, or measurement tools, which may include ADS, Cadence, HFSS, CST, COMSOL, vector network analyzers, probing systems, or THz measurement systems.

  • Ability to analyze technical results and communicate research findings effectively; programming or scripting skills (e.g., MATLAB or Python) are beneficial.

  • Evidence of research productivity, strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
