Location: Santa Fe Springs, CA

Pay Rate: $26–$34 per hour

Department: Quality Control – Metals Laboratory

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Chemist I – Metals to join our Quality Control laboratory in Santa Fe Springs, CA. This role is responsible for performing analytical testing of pharmaceutical products, raw materials, medical devices, and other samples, with a focus on trace metals analysis using ICP-MS and ICP-OES instrumentation.

The Chemist will perform routine testing, assist with method development, method transfers, verification, and validation, and ensure all laboratory activities comply with applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical testing of incoming raw materials, pharmaceutical products, and medical devices using ICP-MS and ICP-OES for trace metals analysis.

  • Design and execute sample preparation procedures to meet client requirements, including samples of increasing complexity.

  • Conduct routine testing in accordance with approved test methods, SOPs, and applicable regulatory and company guidelines.

  • Assist with method development, method transfers, verification, and validation in accordance with USP, ICH, and company standards.

  • Set up, operate, and verify the proper performance of laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation.

  • Collect, analyze, document, and report test results accurately in accordance with established procedures.

  • Maintain accurate, legible, complete, and defensible laboratory records, including experimental data and observations.

  • Support audit readiness and participate in quality audits conducted by the FDA, other regulatory agencies, and customers, as needed.

  • Ensure laboratory activities comply with applicable state and federal regulations, including GMP, FDA, and DEA requirements, as applicable.

  • Maintain high standards of laboratory safety, data integrity, and quality while meeting testing deadlines and throughput requirements.

  • Collaborate with team members and assist with additional laboratory responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific field.

  • 2–5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry or another cGMP-regulated environment.

  • Experience with analytical instrumentation, particularly ICP-MS and ICP-OES, preferred.

  • Expertise in ICP-MS analysis of pharmaceutical products preferred.

  • Working knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

  • Familiarity with applicable USP, ICH, GMP, and FDA requirements.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy and data integrity in a high-throughput laboratory.

  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, regulated environment while managing multiple priorities.

  • Strong teamwork skills, a willingness to learn, and openness to coaching and constructive feedback.

  • Punctuality, flexibility to accommodate shift changes as needed, and willingness to work overtime.

Compensation

$33–$34 per hour , depending on qualifications and experience.
