Bureau of Protective Services (BPS) Corporal - State House (Bravo Shift) (60018521)

THIS IS AN INTERNAL POSTING FOR CURRENT BUREAU OF PROTECTIVE SERVICES (BPS) OFFICERS ONLY. Supervises officers providing law enforcement and protective functions for those areas of the State of South Carolina as determined to be under the jurisdiction of the BPS as defined by SC Code of Law, Section 23-6-90. Conducts investigations and performs other duties as directed by the BPS Command Staff or a BPS Sergeant.

Performs duties as the Day Shift Supervisor at the State House Division and other areas under the jurisdiction of BPS. Performs all supervisory administrative functions, including: creating and submitting preliminary schedules, approving time and leave in South Carolina Enterprise Information System (SCEIS) and conducting Employee Performance Management System (EPMS) evaluations.

Patrols assigned areas to deter and/or detect violations; maintains order and enforces state statutes and regulations. Exercises arrest powers and testifies in court. Investigates disturbances and determines causes and participants.

Serves as supervisor for any other division of BPS during normal field operations and special events. Performs other duties as assigned by a BPS Sergeant or BPS Command Staff.

Assists division supervisors with the coordination of security for special functions at the State House and other areas. Assists with the coordination of special assignments to include, providing security for various state entities holding hearings, appeals, or special meetings where additional precautions are deemed appropriate, and conducts detailed investigations into violations of state laws. State Minimum Requirements - A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency.

Agency Minimum and Additional Requirements -

• A high school diploma and at least five (5) years of law enforcement experience. Must possess basic Class I law enforcement certification and permanent status (at least six (6) months) as a Bureau of Protective Services Lance Corporal or Master Officer.

• Basic law enforcement certification and a permanent status as a BPS Lance Corporal or Master Officer.

• Excellent command of BPS/Department of Public Safety policies and procedures and knowledge of South Carolina Code of Laws. Must also be knowledgeable of State House operations and grounds.

• Must be able to apply abilities and skills with minimum supervision.

• Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills.

• Must be physically able to lift, bend and stand for prolonged periods of time.

• Must be able to restrain individuals who may pose a threat to the Governor and other public officials, state employees, and the general public.

• This individual must also be able to perform these duties under all weather conditions.
