Full job description
Textile Buyer / Materials Specialist Location: 100% on-site in Geneva County, Alabama Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM Compensation: $75,000–$78,000
About the Opportunity Our client is a specialized textile manufacturer producing high-performance fabrics for military, law enforcement, fire protection, industrial, and other demanding applications. The company manufactures and converts technical fabrics, including flame-resistant and ballistic materials, and performs specialized testing onsite.
This is an onsite, hands-on opportunity for someone with experience in textile manufacturing who wants to become deeply involved in the company's purchasing, materials, inventory, quality, and manufacturing processes. You will work closely with the plant team and learn how raw materials, fabric construction, quality, inventory, production, and customer requirements all connect.
What You'll Do
- Order yarn, raw materials, and other production materials
- Audit and verify incoming orders and materials
- Coordinate shipping and receiving activities
- Maintain inventory control and perform inventory counts
- Manage intercompany fabric transfers between U.S. and Canadian operations
- Coordinate fabric transfers to subcontractors supporting government work
- Enter costing information and maintain accurate records
- Assist with month-end closeout activities
- Develop an understanding of fabric construction, yarn specifications, quality requirements, and end-use applications
- Work directly with the plant team to understand the complete manufacturing process
- Support customer-related questions by developing a strong understanding of the company's products and specifications
This role requires someone who is willing to learn the operation from the plant floor first and become familiar with the complete manufacturing process rather than stepping into a purely administrative position.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience with a textile manufacturing company in a similar role, such as Textile Technologist, Buyer/Purchaser, Materials Specialist, or similar
- Background in textiles, fabric, yarn, textile production, or textile quality
- Experience with fabric, yarn, and specification coding
- Quality control experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong Excel skills
- Comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Able to understand how different manufacturing processes impact one another
- Practical problem solver with strong common sense
- Self-directed and comfortable thinking independently
- Team-oriented and willing to wear multiple hats
- U.S. citizenship required due to government contract work
Benefits
- 100% employer-paid health insurance
- 100% employer-paid dental insurance
- 401(k)
- 3% annual employer contribution, regardless of employee contribution
- 2 weeks PTO, with flexibility depending on experience
- 11 paid holidays
- Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM schedule
Why Join This Team This is an opportunity to join a small, highly specialized manufacturing operation where your work directly matters. You won't be one person in a massive corporate structure — you'll become part of the core team and have the opportunity to understand the business and manufacturing process from the ground up.
The role offers significant exposure to textile manufacturing, purchasing, supply chain, quality, materials, government-contract work, and technical fabric applications. You'll have the opportunity to work across multiple areas of the operation rather than being limited to one narrow function.
For the right person, this role can also provide a pathway toward greater responsibility and future leadership opportunities within the organization.
If you're someone who likes to learn, solve problems, get onto the plant floor, and understand how things actually work, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a close-knit team.
