Standard Job Description

Lockheed Martin seeks a motivated Ground Systems Engineer to support the design, integration, testing, and maintenance of ground-based infrastructure for aerospace and space missions. This entry-level position works under moderate supervision and involves assisting with telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C) systems, ground software validation, and documentation. It serves as a structured entry point for early-career engineers looking to build expertise in mission-critical ground infrastructure that enables reliable communication and data exchange between space assets and ground operators.

The information below reflects the standard job description for this position:

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Basic Qualifications

  • Understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, networks, storage, and infrastructure.

  • Experience working with system requirements, technical procedures, diagrams, or engineering documentation.

  • Ability to attain CompTIA Security+ certification within 6 months of hire.

  • Ability to support on-call requirements and work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and outside normal business hours, with the ability to respond within two hours when required.

Desired Skills

  • Active Secret, Top Secret, or TS/SCI clearance.

  • Experience with Linux/Unix and/or Windows system administration, integration, deployment, and operations.

  • Experience troubleshooting complex system issues and performing root-cause analysis across hardware, operating systems, applications, networks, databases, storage, and security.

  • Ability to install, configure, maintain, and upgrade hardware and software systems.

  • Experience with LDAP/Active Directory/identity management.

  • Experience working in classified computing environments.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with enterprise backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes, including data protection, restoration, and system recovery.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $72800.00 - $135200.00

  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
