Senior Accountant – Government Contract Accounting

Location: Burlington, MA

Schedule: Full-Time | Onsite

Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire

Permanent Salary: $100,000–$110,000

Clearance: Ability to obtain a Secret clearance

Kelly Services is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for a temp-to-hire opportunity with our client in Burlington, MA. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with strong government contract cost accounting experience who enjoys working across accounting operations, financial analysis, budgeting, invoicing, and audit support.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will support day-to-day accounting activities with an initial focus on project cost accounting, financial management, budgeting, and government contract invoicing.

What You’ll Do

  • Support daily accounting activities including AP, AR, payroll, journal entries, and general ledger management

  • Prepare accurate, timely invoices and financial information for government contracts

  • Maintain and update accounting data within Unanet ERP

  • Review travel estimates and employee expense reports

  • Manage monthly close activities including prepaid expenses, fixed assets, leave accruals, and other GL accounts

  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial close

  • Prepare and manage full-cycle Accounts Receivable

  • Support annual budgeting and development of government indirect rate proposals

  • Assist with annual Incurred Cost Submissions and support incurred cost audits

  • Provide financial information and documentation for company, workers’ compensation, 401(k), ESOP/stock plan, and other audits

  • Use Excel and internal financial reporting tools to analyze and maintain financial information

  • Partner with Finance leadership and internal teams to resolve accounting issues and meet deadlines

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred

  • 8–10 years of accounting operations experience

  • 5+ years of government/DoD contract cost accounting experience highly preferred

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Experience with Unanet or another DCAA-compliant accounting system preferred

  • Working knowledge of FAR and DFARS preferred

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Ability to handle confidential financial and employee information

  • Self-starter who can work independently while knowing when to seek guidance

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment

  • Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance
