Full job description

Description

We are looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to drive the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation in analytics, powering executive-level decision making for AWS Platform Experience (PLEX).

The Platform Experience Business Intelligence & Analytics (PLEX BIA) team serves as the central hub for transforming the data into trusted business insights. We build and manage scalable analytics infrastructure, standardized metrics, dashboards, and automated reporting that support decision-making across Billing, Fraud Prevention, Payment and Order to Cash systems. We've already shown that governed, AI-powered self-service analytics works: our generative AI insights agent answers business questions for hundreds of users and has saved thousands of hours of manual work. Our next goal is to go from answering questions to investigating them. That means proactive, agent-driven analytics that explain why a metric moved and what to do about it.

As a Senior BIE, you'll be a technical leader for that work. You'll own end-to-end Business Intelligence (BI) solutions in complex, ambiguous areas, set the engineering standards others follow, and work with Data Engineers, Applied Scientists, Finance and business leaders. You'll turn open-ended questions into insight leaders can trust and act on, and your work will directly shape decisions in Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs) and revenue assurance.

Key job responsibilities

Architecture: Own the technical roadmap for the team's analytics stack, including data models, semantic layers, governance controls, and the integration patterns that let AI agents use our data reliably.

AI-powered analytics: Design and build products for root-cause investigation, anomaly detection and proactive insights, using Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and agent frameworks.

Metric governance: Define and enforce governance for S-team/AWS Goal business metrics, covering definitions, lineage, freshness and validation. Evaluate AI-generated outputs so answers stay accurate, auditable and trusted by Finance.

Automation: Replace manual Key Performance Indicator (KPI) decks and recurring reports with self-service and agent-generated insights.

Technical judgment: Review data designs for quality, scalability, latency, security and performance. Make high-impact calls on data modeling, build-vs-buy, legacy migrations, and cost/performance across Amazon Redshift, Athena and related services.

Statistical rigor: Define, calibrate and monitor KPIs with statistical methods, including alarms based on historical variance and experiments that measure business impact.

Communication: Write design docs and narratives that align senior stakeholders, and explain capabilities, limitations and trade-offs in business terms.

Raising the bar: Mentor BIEs, provide technical assessments for promotions, take part in hiring, and drive best practices across the organization: code reviews, naming conventions, metric definitions and operational excellence.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field

  • 8+ years of SQL experience

  • 8+ years of performing statistical analysis experience

  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

  • Experience with AWS technologies

  • Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field
