Full job description
This position is a full-time 10-month, unclassified, in-faculty staff position located on-site at our Bossier Campus and the Goodwill location in Shreveport. This is a grant funded position.

- Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience at the high school level or above.
- Demonstrated ability to independently teach English Language Arts/Writing, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science to learners with varied academic skill levels.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines in a changing environment.
- Ability to work a flexible daytime schedule and limited evening hours in response to program needs.
- Willingness and ability to teach in a correctional facility setting when assigned and to obtain and maintain required facility clearance.
- Willingness to complete required training after hire and obtain applicable qualifications or authorizations needed to support assigned industry-based credential instruction.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Commitment to ongoing education and continuing professional development.
Preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching or training adult learners.
- Experience working with adult learners from diverse educational, cultural, socioeconomic, or linguistic backgrounds.
- Experience in adult education, higher education, correctional education, workforce training, Integrated Education and Training, or industry-based credential instruction.
- Experience using educational technology and computer-assisted instruction.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff, partners, and the public in classroom, office, community, and secure institutional settings, as well as by telephone and electronic communication, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to use standard office and classroom equipment and software, including computers, projectors, copiers, and telephone systems, to perform essential job duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The physical and environmental requirements described above are representative of those necessary to perform the essential functions of this position. The Adult Education Instructor provides comprehensive instruction in English Language Arts/Writing, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science to adult learners preparing for a state-approved high school equivalency assessment, including HiSET/GED as applicable. The instructor also supports learners who are strengthening foundational academic skills for post-secondary education, workforce training, and employment. The Goodwill location in Shreveport is the primary worksite for this position. The instructor works collaboratively with College Transition Programs staff and designated Goodwill personnel to coordinate instruction, enrollment support, student progress, and referrals while maintaining BPCC instructional, assessment, documentation, and reporting requirements. This position requires the ability to independently deliver multi-subject instruction, administer standardized assessments, provide academic advising, maintain accurate program records, and contribute to measurable skill gains, student persistence, high school equivalency attainment, and successful transitions to postsecondary education, training, and employment. The employee may also be assigned to teach at a correctional facility or another College Transition Programs instructional site and may be scheduled for limited evening instruction based on program needs. Instructional Responsibilities
- Develop, plan, and deliver effective instruction in English Language Arts/Writing, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science across varying academic levels.
- Prepare adult learners for the state-approved high school equivalency assessment by aligning instruction with applicable high school equivalency content standards and the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education.
- Teach the reading, writing, quantitative reasoning, data interpretation, scientific reasoning, source analysis, and critical-thinking skills required across the high school equivalency subject areas.
- Use whole-group, small-group, individualized, self-paced, tutoring, and computer-assisted instructional strategies to address varied learner needs and academic goals.
- Select and adapt instructional materials and develop appropriate remediation or acceleration plans based on assessment results and student performance.
- Contextualize academic instruction, as assigned, to support employability skills, workforce preparation, Integrated Education and Training, and college and career pathways.
- Evaluate student learning regularly through formative and summative assessment and adjust instruction based on documented results.
Assessment and Student Progress
- Administer approved adult education assessments, including TABE assessments and HiSET/GED official practice assessments, in accordance with program procedures and applicable testing requirements.
- Interpret assessment results to identify instructional needs, establish academic goals, monitor progress, and determine readiness for high school equivalency testing.
- Maintain accurate and timely attendance, assessment, progress, advising, and other student records required by BPCC, the Louisiana adult education system, and state and federal grant requirements.
- Monitor instructional practices and student outcomes that contribute to measurable skill gains, student persistence, high school equivalency attainment, and transition outcomes.
- Protect student information and maintain assessment integrity in accordance with institutional policy and applicable requirements.
Advising, Enrollment, and Student Support
- Conduct individual advising sessions and provide timely feedback regarding academic progress, testing readiness, and college and career transition goals.
- Participate in student enrollment, orientation, assessment, and placement activities as assigned.
- Make appropriate referrals to BPCC, Goodwill, and community support services to address barriers and advance individual student goals.
- Collaborate with College Transition Programs staff and designated Goodwill personnel to coordinate learner support, promote persistence, and improve student access and success.
Workforce and Industry-Based Credential Support
- Integrate workforce readiness, employability skills, digital literacy, and career-contextualized learning into academic instruction when appropriate.
- Support instruction connected to approved workforce pathways or industry-based credentials based on program needs and the employee's qualifications.
- When assigned, complete necessary training and obtain and maintain any instructor qualification, certification, or authorization required to deliver industry-based credential preparation or training.
- Provide industry-based credential instruction only when appropriately qualified or authorized and in accordance with the requirements of the credentialing body and BPCC.
Schedule and Instructional Environment
- Maintain the Goodwill location in Shreveport as the position's primary worksite and fulfill the assigned instructional and administrative schedule at that location.
- Provide limited evening instruction when assigned based on program and learner needs.
- Provide instruction at a local correctional facility or another off-campus College Transition Programs site when assigned by the Director.
- Obtain and maintain any clearance required to teach in a correctional facility.
- Work effectively in secure institutional environments where access, movement, personal electronics, instructional materials, and internet use may be restricted.
- Adapt to reasonable semester-to-semester changes in instructional schedule, course assignment, or delivery format based on program needs.
Travel Requirements
- Maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Travel between the Goodwill location, BPCC locations, correctional facilities, and other assigned instructional sites as needed, including same-day travel.
- Operate a motor vehicle for required travel between instructional sites. Mileage reimbursement is provided in accordance with institutional policy.
Professional Responsibilities and Grant Compliance
- Participate in required orientation, professional development, training, departmental meetings, and continuous instructional improvement activities.
- Maintain current knowledge of adult education instruction, high school equivalency requirements, assessment practices, and applicable state and federal program expectations.
- Contribute to departmental compliance with institutional, state, federal, and grant requirements related to professional development, student attendance, retention, documentation, assessment, data quality, and program performance.
- Communicate professionally and maintain effective working relationships with students, BPCC personnel, Goodwill staff, correctional facility personnel, and community partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, College Transition Programs.
