Description
The Department of Health Behavior (HBEH) in the CEPH-accredited School of Public Health at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full- time, academic professional track (non-tenure) position at the rank of either Instructional Assistant Professor, Instructional Associate Professor, or Instructional Professor contributing to our undergraduate Bachelor of Public Health program in McAllen, Texas. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing department with a commitment to scholarly inquiry across a broad spectrum of areas.
Texas A&M University is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), holds a Carnegie R1-Very High Research Activity classification, and is one of only 24 institutions in the nation to hold the triple designation as a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant university.
The School of Public Health has over 95 faculty across four distinct departments. The School of Public Health is currently ranked #1 in Texas, 31/225 by U.S. News & World Report, and has the 6th largest student enrollment in the nation. The school has had record external funding growth over the past five years.
The Department of Health Behavior seeks a creative, engaged instructor to join our growing program at the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center in McAllen, Texas. This instructional professor will join two other HBEH faculty in McAllen and is expected to contribute to the education and service mission of the Department, aiding in the development and mentorship of undergraduate students, while maintaining excellence in the classroom.
The Department has 16 tenured and tenure track faculty members, 13 instructional (non-tenured) faculty, and multiple staff members. The Department offers a traditional Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in health behavior, a concentration in the school-wide Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Public Health Sciences, and a dedicated Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Behavior. Additionally, Health Behavior faculty teach in the School’s Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree program, which has over 2,000 students on the College Station campus.
Since 2017, the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen has brought the Aggie experience to the Rio Grande Valley. Instructional faculty enjoy fully funded 9-month appointments with teaching (90%) and service (10%) responsibilities. The standard teaching load is seven (3-credit hour) classes a year, with options for additional (Summer) salary depending on school or department needs. Successful applicants will hold a doctoral degree with relevance to the research and teaching mission of the Department of Health Behavior, have a strong record of instructional experience, and a demonstrated commitment to dynamic graduate and undergraduate teaching. This appointment is scheduled to start August 1st, 2027, though the formal start date is negotiable. Reviews will start in October 2026, with applications being considered until the position is filled. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements: Doctoral degree in social and behavioral health, public health, health education, health promotion, or related field.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
Commitment to excellence in teaching. Previous higher education teaching experience. Proven track-record of mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Educators who embody thoughtful and innovative teaching practices is preferred.
