Lieutenant - EHSO (#019536) Kirkland Correctional Institution, Columbia (RICHLAND) Level 3

• Under general supervision of the Warden will be responsible for the overall EHSO duties at Kirkland Reception & Evaluation Center.
• To manage and maintain OSHA files and procedures throughout the institution.
• To ensure the proper storage and documentation of toxic caustic flammable materials.
• To update and maintain MSDS files.
• Provide staff with the highest level of fire safety, sanitation, security issues and the implementation of a corrective action.
• Conduct training for staff, new hires, and inmates for institutional training and orientation.
• Prepares weekly and monthly documentation of institutional policy and procedures concerning the office of EHSO.
• Conduct fire drills and equipment inspections.
• Investigates worker's compensation claims and fires, accidents, and other incidents.
• Will implement activities with employees/inmates involving EHSO matters.
• Trains and conducts emergency preparedness training and procedures with shift supervisors and executive staff.
• Implement safety training for area supervisors and inmate population.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and three (3) years' experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
