Easterseals Iowa is now accepting applicants for Practicum/Internship (Foundation, Generalist, or Intermediate Placement) in Social Work Generalist Practicum or Counseling Practicum

About the Opportunity:

Easterseals Iowa offers practicum and internship opportunities for students pursuing Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, and related behavioral health fields. Placements are individualized based on student interests, educational requirements, and organizational needs.

These placements are typically completed over a single semester and range from approximately100 to 300 hours, depending on your program requirements. We also welcome students seeking shorter observational or shadowing experiences when permitted by their academic program.

Students may be placed in a variety of programs, including behavioral health, disability services, community-based services, crisis services, residential programs, and other areas across Easterseals Iowa. This placement is best suited for students who are interested in community-based behavioral health services, nonprofit healthcare, and serving diverse populations across multiple treatment settings.

Learning Opportunities:

Depending on the placement, students may have opportunities to:

  • Observe and participate in client services

  • Develop engagement, assessment, and intervention skills

  • Facilitate or co-facilitate groups

  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings

  • Learn about community-based and nonprofit service delivery

  • Gain experience with documentation, case coordination, and resource development

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in an accredited degree program

  • Ability to meet school and organizational requirements for placement

  • Interest in serving individuals, families, and communities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Application Process:

Applications are accepted throughout the year. Placement availability varies based on program capacity and supervisory resources. Applicants participate in an initial screening interview and a second interview with the Director of Brain Health, Tony Raymer.
