Description

As a Migration & Modernization Specialist Solutions Architect at AWS, you’ll build technical relationships with customers of all sizes and develop solutions to accelerate their cloud modernization/migration journey. You will operate as their trusted advisor, ensuring they get the most out of the cloud at every stage of their journey. You will engage with senior customer leaders and technical stakeholders to help them achieve increased agility and significant business value by leading their modernization/migration to AWS.

You’ll manage the technical relationship between AWS and our customers, making recommendations on security, cost, performance, reliability and operational efficiency to accelerate their large scale Modernization/Migration projects.

Internally, you will be the voice of the customer, sharing their needs and wants to inform the roadmap of AWS features. Externally, The Modernization & Migration Specialist Solutions Architect works with senior enterprises, helping them to effectively lead their migration assessment readiness and strategy.

In this role, your creativity will link technology to tangible solutions, with the opportunity to define cloud-native reference architectures for a variety of use cases.

You will participate in the creation and sharing of best practices, technical content and new reference architectures (e.g. white papers, code samples, blog posts) and evangelize and educate about AWS technology (e.g. through workshops, user groups, meetups, public speaking, online videos or conferences).

Key job responsibilities

Provide comprehensive technical expertise in infrastructure migration and application modernization strategies, including VMware-to-AWS, mainframe exit, database migration, and containerization pathways

Assess customer on-premises environments and design scalable, cost-optimized target architectures on AWS that align with their business objectives and transformation timelines

Define end-to-end migration strategies - from workload discovery and dependency mapping through wave planning, cutover execution, and post-migration optimization

Represent the voice of the customer and collaborate with field and central teams to bring migration/modernization feedback to product and service teams

Act as a thought leader in Migration & Modernization by sharing best practices through AWS blogs, whitepapers, reference architectures, and public speaking engagements such as AWS Summits and AWS re:Invent

Guide and support an internal AWS community of technical subject matter experts aligned to your customers, including the creation of field enablement materials for the broader Solutions Architect population on migration pathways and modernization patterns

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience architecting or deploying Cloud/Virtualization solutions in enterprise customers

  • Experience architecting infrastructure solutions using both Linux/Unix and Windows with specific recommendations on server, load balancing, HA/DR, & storage architectures

  • Experience communicating across technical and non-technical audiences, including executive level stakeholders or clients

  • 8+ years of design, implementation, or consulting experience across core infrastructure domains: virtualization (VMware), containers, storage, databases, and application modernization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of AWS services, market segments, customer base and industry verticals

  • Experience in adjacent technology domains such as containerization, serverless, database migration, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation)

  • Strong preference for experience in technical pre-sales or customer-facing architecture roles involving large-scale migration or data center transformation programs

  • AWS certifications strongly preferred (e.g., Solutions Architect Professional, Database Specialty)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
