Full job description
The Division of Research in the Department of Pathology at Stanford University seeks an outstanding scientist to join the Department as Assistant Professor in the Non-Tenure Line (Research). We are particularly interested in candidates who will maintain an independent research program while also collaborating extensively with clinically active colleagues and trainees in the department. The successful candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree, have extensive experience using cutting-edge research technologies with human samples obtained through anatomic and/or clinical pathology laboratories, demonstrate success in obtaining independent research funding, and a strong commitment to collaborating with clinically active pathology faculty and trainees.
The Department of Pathology at Stanford University is one of the leading academic pathology departments in the US with approximately 120 faculty, among whom are a Nobel laureate, HHMI investigators, multiple members of the National Academies, and many faculty with other national distinctions. Stanford Pathology research has areas of focus that include anatomic and clinical pathology, immunology, genetics, cancer research, and neuroscience. We seek an innovative faculty member who will independently and collaboratively inspire and train the next generation of academic pathologists.
The major criterion for appointment for faculty in the Non-tenure Line (Research) is evidence of high-level performance as a researcher for whose special knowledge a programmatic need exists. Individuals appointed as Assistant Professors in the Research Line will have completed one or two years of postdoctoral research experience and, where applicable, will have completed housestaff training. Their accomplishments during graduate and postgraduate training should already have stamped them as creative and promising investigators. There should be evidence of the ability to obtain external funding as well as the promise of outstanding performance as a supervisor of graduate students, post-doctoral and clinical fellows, and research scientists. Appointment is based on evidence or the promise of high-level performance in research, and, if applicable, teaching. The initial term of appointment will be four years. This appointment is coterminous with continued salary and other research support from sponsored research projects.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, a one-page research statement, a one-page teaching statement, and a one-page list of references to: Faculty Positions Application Link (https://facultypositions.stanford.edu/jobs/assistant-professor-of-research-pathology-non-tenure-line-research-stanford-university-california-united-states) . Applications will be accepted and reviewed until the position is filled.
The university’s central functions of research and education depend on freedom of thought, and expression.
