Ion Transport Designer - 1051 We are seeking an Ion Transport Designer in our Broomfield, CO location to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, simulation, and optimization of ion transport architectures used in Quantinuum's trapped-ion quantum computing systems. You will develop and validate transport waveforms, trapping configurations, and electrode designs that enable reliable, high-fidelity movement of ions throughout complex quantum computing devices. You will also contribute to research and development efforts, prototype evaluation, system characterization, integration activities, documentation, and the transition of new designs into production environments. Working closely with physicists, engineers, and software teams, you will help identify and resolve performance limitations, improve transport efficiency, and support the scalability of next-generation quantum processors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in charged particle dynamics, electromagnetic field modeling, numerical simulation, experimental validation, and engineering problem solving, with experience developing solutions that balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, and long-term operational stability. All applicants for placement in safety-sensitive positions will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. Key Responsibilities: - Perform research on cutting edge trap transport methods. - Design and develop ion surface trap top metal for ion trapping and transport. - Design and develop ion voltage waveforms for efficient ion transport. - Create and maintain software tools to enable key features of ion transport waveform design. - Work directly with computational scientists, experimentalists, and engineers to research solutions to cutting-edge ion trapping and transport problems. - Communicate ground-breaking results both internally and externally through publications and presentations. YOU MUST HAVE: - PhD Degree minimum - Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status. - Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen. WE VALUE: - PhD in applied physics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field - Proficiency with Python - Experience with software management and collaboration tools and techniques - Experience organizing and maintaining software projects or packages - Experience working with trapped ions - Experience with electrostatic modeling and design optimization - Knowledge of analog filters and related techniques for system simulation - Experience applying physical principles to optimization problems or numerical simulation - Experience with numerical optimization techniques such as convex optimization - Experience using HPC clusters, GPUs, or other parallel computing techniques - Experience working with quantum computing hardware - Teamwork and collaboration - Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results within your field of research. Compensation & Benefits: The pay range for this role is $131,000 -- $177,000 annually.
