Full job description

Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for our client in Moss Point, Mississippi. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and helping ensure day-to-day transactions are processed efficiently. The ideal candidate brings solid accounting knowledge, strong analytical ability, and a practical understanding of general ledger activity, payables, and reporting responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day accounts payable activities, including reviewing invoices, coordinating approvals, and ensuring timely disbursement of payments.

  • Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining the accuracy and integrity of general ledger records.

  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit card activity, and other balance sheet accounts to support accurate monthly financial results.

  • Assist with payroll processing when needed by verifying supporting information and helping maintain proper documentation.

  • Compile internal and external financial reports by analyzing accounting data and presenting information in a clear, organized format.

  • Support fixed asset tracking, account analysis, and routine auditing activities to strengthen financial controls and reporting accuracy.

  • Research discrepancies, investigate transaction issues, and recommend corrections to maintain reliable accounting information.

  • Contribute to tax-related accounting tasks, including support for sales tax reporting and corporate tax return preparation as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 2–4 years of accounting experience in a non-profit environment.

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Business Administration is required.

  • Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, and financial report preparation.

  • Working knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including reconciliations and transaction review.

  • Familiarity with bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, fixed assets, and financial data analysis is preferred.

  • Understanding of sales tax processes and exposure to corporate tax return support is beneficial.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and interpret financial information accurately.

  • Proficiency in standard office and accounting systems, along with effective analytical and organizational skills.
