Full job description

The Department of Neurology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine invites applications for a faculty position at the Associate Professor or Full Professor rank in clinical neuropsychology. We seek a neuropsychologist with leadership experience and clinical and research interests in dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, related neurodegenerative disorders, and/or dementia caregiving. The successful candidate will contribute to the Department’s clinical, research, educational, and academic missions.

The position involves a substantial portion of their effort to clinical care for individuals with neurological illness and neurodegenerative diseases, with a primary focus on patients seen in the Memory and Aging Care Clinic. The candidate will also contribute to the development and advancement of clinical and research initiatives focused on dementia and, where applicable, the experiences and outcomes of individuals providing care for people living with dementia. Opportunities exist to collaborate with an active clinical trials research program and with multidisciplinary investigators to improve understanding and clinical outcomes, as well as translate research findings into clinical practice.

The successful candidate will have a commitment to academic leadership, scholarship, and excellence in clinical care. Responsibilities will include teaching and mentoring psychology trainees, postdoctoral fellows in the APPCN-accredited fellowship program, and other learners; contributing to clinical and research program development; and collaborating with faculty and interdisciplinary colleagues across the University. Candidates with experience leading clinical programs, research teams, collaborative initiatives, or academic programs are particularly encouraged to apply. The candidate will be expected to foster a collaborative environment that supports innovation, professional development, and the integration of clinical care, research, and education.

Applicants must hold a PhD or PsyD in Psychology, have board certification in clinical neuropsychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), and be licensed or license eligible to practice in Virginia. Evidence of scholarship, successful collaboration, mentorship, and leadership is highly desirable, particularly in dementia, neurodegenerative disease, dementia caregiving, or related areas.

A commitment to teaching, mentorship, and the advancement of an inclusive academic environment is required. Evidence of commitment to activities promoting diversity and advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups is essential.

This position offers an opportunity to join a collaborative academic neurology department committed to excellence in patient care, innovative research, and the education and mentorship of the next generation of clinicians and scientists. The successful candidate will help shape the future of clinical neuropsychology and contribute to the advancement of dementia care and research at the University of Virginia.
