The API Office provides the enterprise platforms, tools, and standards that enable engineering teams across Edward Jones to design, build, secure, and manage APIs at scale. The team drives strategic initiatives focused on API governance, automation, observability, developer productivity, and platform modernization, helping accelerate delivery and strengthen operational excellence across the firm's API ecosystem.

As a Solution Engineer, you will be a senior technical expert responsible for shaping the future of the firm's API ecosystem. You will influence architectural direction, define platform standards, solve complex engineering challenges, and partner across teams to deliver scalable, resilient, and innovative solutions that advance the firm's API strategy.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as a senior technical expert, providing architectural guidance and technical leadership for API and platform initiatives.

  • Define and evolve API standards, governance practices, and architectural patterns to ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.

  • Shape and influence the technical roadmap by identifying opportunities to improve developer productivity, automation, observability, and operational excellence.

  • Lead the design and review of complex API and integration solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and long-term technology strategy.

  • Partner with Product Owners, Engineers, Architects, and stakeholders to solve complex technical challenges and accelerate delivery.

  • Champion observability and reliability best practices to improve platform resilience and reduce MTTD and MTTR for critical services.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to drive platform innovation and modernization.

  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence through technical guidance, architecture reviews, and knowledge sharing.

  • Represent the API Office in architecture discussions and influence technical decisions across multiple teams and initiatives.

What You'll Need:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, platform engineering, or related technical disciplines.

  • 5+ years of experience architecting and delivering enterprise-scale API, integration, or distributed system solutions.

  • Deep expertise in API lifecycle management, API governance, API-first design principles, and OpenAPI Specifications.

  • Strong experience with cloud-native architectures, microservices, distributed systems, and API security standards, including OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.

  • Hands-on experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, API management, and enterprise integration technologies.

  • Strong technical proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD automation, and modern software engineering practices.

  • Experience working in Agile product development environments.

What Will Set You Apart:

  • Experience defining enterprise architecture standards, technical strategy, and platform roadmaps.

  • Expertise in observability, monitoring, logging, reliability engineering, and operational excellence practices.

  • Experience leading API governance, platform modernization, or technology transformation initiatives at enterprise scale.

  • Proven track record of influencing technical direction and driving adoption of standards across multiple teams and portfolios.

  • Advanced expertise in high-availability architectures, resiliency, disaster recovery, and enterprise-scale platform operations.

Candidates that live within a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ, St. Louis, MO home office locations, and/or that work within a Talent Capability and Generations Hub are expected to work in the office four days per week.

Any changes in strategic direction will be determined by the General Partner responsible for the business segment.
