Packaging Operations and Innovation Co-Op

POSITION PURPOSE

The position will be involved in projects including, but not limited to, packaging materials and process evaluations, as well as scientific studies intended to support the Packaging Engineering team and packaging sites. The successful candidate will gain exposure to cross-functional teams and support Packaging Development tasks and objectives that align with business needs. This role provides opportunities to work on projects throughout their lifecycle, develop packaging engineering skills, and contribute to packaging development initiatives. In addition, the position will support packaging studies and independently manage assignments related to packaging development projects. Typical day-to-day activities include working with the Product Experience (PX) team, site packaging engineering teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders.

Spring 2027 Co-Op: January 11, 2027 – June 11, 2027

Fall 2027 Co-Op: May 17, 2027 or June 14, 2027 – December 10, 2027

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Support pipeline innovations, business protection and maintenance initiatives, and design renovation projects, including development support for primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging;

  • Deliver assigned project tasks on time and in full;

  • Support effective technical transfer of information to manufacturing sites and contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs);

  • Serve as a contributor to cross-functional project teams and change management activities through coordination of component drawing and specification reviews, component testing and qualification, line trials of new components, package testing, bill of materials development, and third-party process qualifications;

  • Facilitate the resolution of packaging-related challenges throughout the development process to meet customer needs;

  • Utilize key packaging processes and tools, including Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and barcode verification systems;

  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to efficiently deliver project objectives;

  • Integrate Package Engineering activities with Consumer Health Product Experience teams and support change management and label control processes to ensure timely project execution;

  • Collect and analyze packaging component and sustainability data.

Key Working Relationships:

  • Cross-functional engagement with Engineering, Commercial, Product Supply, and Design teams.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required:

  • Completion of at least one year, preferably two years, of undergraduate studies in Packaging, Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, Packaging Technology, or a related discipline;

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Packaging, Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, Packaging Technology, or a related field;

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English;

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel;

  • Excellent organizational skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Minitab or other statistical analysis software.

Employees can expect to be paid an hourly rate of approximately between $20.75 to $58.50. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits may include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. (if relevant). This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
