Job Description

Software Quality Tester – AFATDS/IFATDS

Position Summary

Total Technology, Inc. (T2) is seeking a Software Quality Tester to support software testing, verification, validation, and quality assurance activities. The successful candidate will support the Government in evaluating software functionality, identifying and documenting defects, executing formal and informal test procedures, performing regression testing, and verifying corrective actions associated with artillery fire control and related software systems.

The position requires demonstrated artillery experience and a working understanding of artillery fire direction, fire mission processing, tactical operations, and associated command-and-control systems. Experience with the International Field Artillery Tactical Data System (IFATDS) is highly desired; experience with the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS) is acceptable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Software Quality Tester will:

  • Develop, review, and execute software test procedures, test cases, test scenarios, and acceptance criteria based on system requirements, software requirements, interface requirements, and Government-defined operational use cases.

  • Perform functional, integration, system, regression, and software quality testing of artillery fire control and command-and-control software.

  • Support testing of IFATDS and/or AFATDS functionality, interfaces, message processing, fire mission workflows, and related artillery operational functions.

  • Evaluate software performance against approved requirements and expected operational behavior.

  • Execute representative artillery operational scenarios to verify software functionality under realistic mission conditions.

  • Identify, reproduce, isolate, document, and track software defects and anomalous system behavior.

  • Prepare detailed defect reports containing test conditions, steps to reproduce, expected results, actual results, supporting evidence, and recommended disposition.

  • Perform regression testing following software modifications and defect corrections to verify successful resolution and identify unintended impacts to previously validated functionality.

  • Support software builds, releases, configuration verification, installation, and test-environment preparation.

  • Verify software and test configurations prior to execution to ensure test results are repeatable and traceable to the appropriate baseline.

  • Analyze test results, system logs, software messages, interface data, and other available diagnostic information to assist engineering personnel with root-cause determination.

  • Participate in technical reviews, test readiness reviews, defect review boards, configuration reviews, and Government Integrated Product Team meetings.

  • Coordinate with software developers, systems engineers, artillery subject matter experts, Government personnel, and other stakeholders to resolve technical issues.

  • Maintain accurate test records and provide test results, status reports, defect metrics, and supporting documentation as required.

  • Support Government testing at contractor and Government facilities and field/test locations when required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated U.S. Army or DoD artillery experience is highly desired.

  • Practical knowledge of artillery operations, fire direction, fire mission processing, tactical procedures, and associated fire control systems.

  • Experience conducting software testing, system testing, operational testing, quality assurance, verification and validation, or similar technical testing activities.

  • Ability to translate operational requirements and system requirements into executable test cases and scenarios.

  • Experience documenting software defects and communicating technical findings to software developers, engineers, and Government personnel.

  • Ability to execute repeatable test procedures and accurately document test results.

  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering and Government teams.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain required Government installation, network, and system access.

Desired Qualifications

  • IFATDS experience is highly desired.

  • AFATDS experience is acceptable in lieu of direct IFATDS experience.

  • Experience supporting Army field artillery tactical fire direction or fire control systems.

  • Experience with artillery command-and-control software, tactical message processing, digital fire missions, or related interfaces.

  • Experience developing software test procedures and formal test documentation.

  • Experience with software defect/change tracking systems and configuration management processes.

  • Experience performing regression, integration, interface, and system-level testing.

  • Familiarity with Army software development, sustainment, test, and configuration-control environments.

  • Previous experience supporting DEVCOM Armaments Center, PEO GCS, Army artillery programs, or comparable DoD organizations is desirable.

Preferred Artillery Background

Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas are preferred:

  • Field Artillery Fire Direction Center (FDC) operations

  • AFATDS/IFATDS operations

  • Fire Direction Specialist experience

  • Artillery tactical data systems

  • M109-series self-propelled howitzer operations

  • M777-series or M119-series howitzer operations

  • Paladin fire control and digital fire mission processes

  • Artillery command-and-control systems

  • Digital fire mission processing and tactical messaging

  • Artillery software operational testing

Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, mathematics, or a related technical discipline is preferred. Relevant military artillery experience, specialized technical training, AFATDS/IFATDS experience, and demonstrated software testing experience may be considered in combination with or in lieu of formal education, consistent with the applicable contract labor-category requirements.

Key Discriminator

The ideal candidate combines hands-on artillery operational knowledge with disciplined software testing experience. This combination enables the tester to evaluate not only whether the software meets documented technical requirements, but whether its behavior supports realistic artillery fire mission workflows and operational requirements.

Government Benefit: Personnel possessing both artillery domain expertise and software quality-testing experience provide an operationally informed test capability that improves defect identification, strengthens regression testing, reduces the likelihood of fielded software deficiencies, and provides greater confidence that software releases perform as intended within the Army artillery mission environment.
