A Brief Overview

The Communication Specialist Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations and issues of the Avera Careflight Communication Center. Maintains and provides training for software and operational duties. Coordinates all calls for aeromedical and ground services, obtains and communicates necessary information to ambulance, flight crews and hospital personnel to facilitate safe and efficient transport of patients. Performs clerical duties and requisition supplies, equipment and services as directed.

What you will do

  • Assists with formulating and developing goals and objectives, protocols, policies, procedures and Standards of Care and Standards of Practice for the Flight and Ground Program.

  • Assists with data collection, data entry, evaluation and completion of reports as needed by the Performance Improvement Department, Joint Commission, Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) and OSHA. Notifies Director of Operations if trends detected.

  • Reviews all run reports for QA/QI.

  • Assists with promotion of the flight and ground program in the internal and external environment.

  • Coordinates competency-based education and assists with staff development in accordance CAMTS, IAMTCS, FAA and Careflight policies and procedures.

  • Coordinates and schedules Communication Center Evacuation Drills. Assists with planning of PAIP drills.

  • Coordinates new employee orientation, scheduling, and training.

  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of EMS/air transport.

  • Maintains operational skills as required to assure meeting expected product line strategic outcomes. Conforms to job description of Communication Specialist when performing operational hours.

  • Performs as the lead for all dispatching software and communication devices development and program needs through the product vendors.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Essential Qualifications

The individual must be able to work the hours specified. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds. Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • High School or GED Equivalent

  • Certified Flight Communicator - International Association of Medical Transport Communication Specialists (IAMTCS) or Commlink CFC certification within 2 Years

Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • EMT, EMD, and/or Aviation experience

  • Medical terminology or medical secretary training

  • Previous experience in medical field

  • General knowledge of codes, ordinance, regulations, geography and public safety procedures
