The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in a variety of fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance, and neuroscience.
The Chemistry Department in MCS is seeking a Lab Manager to join the team! The lab manager will lead daily tasks to keep an environmental analytical lab running smoothly. This will include assisting with shipping and receiving, laboratory upkeep, maintenance of three LC-QTOF-MS systems, maintaining standard operating procedures, as well as timely completion of routine sample preparation and analysis (e.g., prep and analysis of blood samples or environmental samples for per/polyfluoroalkyl substances, PFASs). This role will also be heavily involved in knowledge transfer, making sure new lab members are trained in routine laboratory protocols. They are encouraged to participate in experimental design and data interpretation for research projects as well as manuscript preparation.
Core Responsibilities

Maintaining and repairing LC-QTOF-MS systems

Running per/polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) analysis on LC-QTOF-MS systems

Completing sample preparation and analysis for biological and environmental samples

Training new laboratory members

Organizing general laboratory upkeep

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, environmental engineering, or related field required. Doctorate degree preferred.

Minimum of one year experience as a postdoctoral scientist or laboratory manager in an analytical laboratory, including experience working with high-resolution mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography.

A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
