Job Description

As a Cardiac Sonographe r, you’ll play an important role in helping our cardiology team understand and care for patients through high-quality diagnostic imaging. You’ll perform a variety of cardiac ultrasound examinations, including standard echocardiograms, spectral, color, and tissue Doppler exams, stress echocardiograms, pharmacologic stress echocardiograms, and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).

You’ll also have the opportunity to work throughout the hospital, operating mobile ultrasound equipment and providing imaging services wherever patients need them. Every examination you perform is reviewed and reported by a staff cardiologist, giving you the opportunity to work closely with an experienced clinical team while contributing to high-quality patient care.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform high-quality cardiac ultrasound examinations, including spectral, color, and tissue Doppler studies.

  • Perform stress echocardiograms and pharmacologic stress echocardiograms.

  • Independently perform transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).

  • Operate mobile cardiac ultrasound equipment throughout the hospital.

  • Safely and effectively position patients for examinations and procedures.

  • Explain procedures clearly to patients and provide reassurance throughout their exam.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, physicians, and other staff members.

  • Accurately document procedures and examination information.

  • Work with patients across all stages of human development and provide age-appropriate care.

  • Collaborate with staff cardiologists, who review and report all completed examinations.

What You Bring (Requirements)

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Active BLS certification

  • Active registration maintained in accordance with ARDMS standards.

  • Current RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) credential through ARDMS or RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer) credential through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

  • Active BLS certification, which must be maintained throughout employment to remain assigned to the position.

  • Ability to independently perform echocardiograms, pharmacologic stress echocardiograms, and TEE procedures.

  • Considerable knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, particularly as it relates to the cardiovascular system.

  • Strong verbal communication skills to explain procedures to patients and exchange information with co-workers and staff.

  • Strong written communication skills to accurately document procedures.

  • Knowledge of the human development process and the ability to work effectively with patients of all ages.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely lift and position patients.

  • Current CPR certification must be maintained for continued employment.

Preferred

  • Three years of cardiac ultrasound experience.
