Health & Safety Assistant | Des Plaines, IL

Our client, a leading aerospace and defense technology organization, is seeking a Health & Safety Assistant to join their team. As a Health & Safety Assistant, you will be part of the Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) team supporting research, development, and manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, analytical thinking, and a collaborative mindset that will align successfully within the organization.

Job Title: Health & Safety Assistant (Chemical Inventory Assistant)

Location: Des Plaines, IL

Pay Range: $30.00/hour

What’s the Job?

  • Manage large-scale chemical inventories, ensuring data accuracy and regulatory compliance.

  • Maintain and oversee Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management systems, including retrieval and organization of records.

  • Support SAP processes related to materials management and chemical tracking.

  • Apply HMIS classifications and assist with hazard assessments to promote safe handling and storage practices.

  • Collaborate with HSE professionals to support compliance initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

What’s Needed?

  • Working knowledge of OSHA Hazard Communication requirements, GHS labeling standards, and SDS interpretation.

  • Experience managing multiple priorities while maintaining strong organizational skills and meeting deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on identifying root causes and corrective actions.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.

  • Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree, or relevant work experience in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
