Construction Materials Laboratory Technician

S&ME is looking for an eager and detail-oriented full-time Construction Materials Laboratory Technician to join our Construction Services team supporting our Paducah, Kentucky lab.

About The Role:

As a Construction Materials Laboratory Technician, your role is crucial in ensuring the quality and reliability of our projects while performing routine laboratory testing of construction materials under the observation of experienced technicians and professionals. You will be responsible for reporting test results logically and completely, often reviewing test results of junior staff. Additionally, you will be responsible for equipment maintenance and cleanliness while assisting with calibrations. Proficiency with electronic reporting software and knowledge of testing requirements are essential.

Testing and Reporting: Perform and report findings of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt testing in the laboratory under minimal observation of more experienced technicians and/or professionals. Your contributions will directly impact the success of our projects and the satisfaction of our clients.

Equipment: Maintain testing equipment in good working order and perform maintenance and calibration. Your attention to detail and commitment to excellence will ensure that our equipment is always ready for accurate testing.

Coordination of Others: May assign testing to other staff on small to medium projects and perform a preliminary review of their testing results. Your leadership and coordination skills will help foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.

About You:

You have a High School diploma/GED; related vocational training, a plus

You have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a construction materials testing laboratory

You have ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Level II certification, required

You have additional active industry certifications a plus:

American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician

International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)

You have effective math skills with a strong understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure

You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language

You understand a fluctuating weekly work schedule depending on project needs

You have a valid U.S. driver's license or an International Driving Permit (IDP) valid for driving in the United States, with an acceptable driving record

You can safely operate a company-assigned vehicle, including trucks and SUVs.

You are willing to complete a background check, driving record check, and drug screen upon offer of employment.

You Are Willing and Able to:

Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

Working most of the time in the office, but might be requested to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Walking on a concrete/tile floor and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day

Lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. of field/laboratory samples and equipment

Safely handling field tools and maneuvering equipment on active construction sites
