Full job description

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join our finance team in Erie, Pennsylvania in a contract capacity with the potential to become permanent. This position offers the opportunity to contribute across core accounting operations, from daily transaction activity through month-end close, while partnering with local and corporate finance stakeholders. The role is well suited for an accounting specialist who values accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement in a hands-on environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and record journal entries accurately and in accordance with established accounting policies and reporting standards.

  • Complete account and bank reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve outstanding items within expected timelines.

  • Process intercompany accounting activity, employee expense submissions, and depreciation-related entries to support accurate financial records.

  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, lease-related tracking, and the recording of disposals when applicable.

  • Coordinate monthly closing tasks and help ensure financial results are finalized on schedule for internal and corporate reporting.

  • Support cash activity by reviewing postings, maintaining bank account accuracy, and addressing discrepancies promptly.

  • Contribute to accounting system enhancements or upgrades as a key finance user and assist with strengthening procedures and internal controls.

  • Prepare required reports and audit support documentation, and assist with tax-related activities such as information requests and required form preparation.

  • Partner with other departments and provide accounting guidance while supporting financial analysis and reporting needs as requested. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related discipline.

  • At least 5 years of hands-on general accounting experience, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close support.

  • Working knowledge of tax-related accounting activities, including corporate tax support, sales tax, and required reporting forms.

  • Experience with general ledger accounting, cash or charge posting, expense report processing, and account reconciliation.

  • Proficiency with SAP and strong Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and sound judgment.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.

  • High attention to detail and a consistent focus on accuracy, compliance, and follow-through.
