Job Description
What We Want
The Senior Research Associate for the Construction Science Department assists research teams with performing site investigations, collecting field data, and providing inspection training guidance. This person will coordinate with contractors and project owners to visit civil construction sites to collect images, videos, test reports, and other necessary information to develop training materials. In addition to coordination, this person will help students and researchers travel to sites, safely enter and exit sites, and identify necessary construction elements for data collection. Finally, this person will assist with construction material procurement and testing if necessary.
Responsibilities
Collect and perform civil construction material testing
-
Obtain civil construction materials for testing.
-
Perform necessary lab tests on construction materials.
-
Teach research students how to perform the necessary tests.

Assist students and research teams performing work on civil construction projects or with civil construction materials.
Visits civil construction sites
-
Secures a travel vehicle to take research team members to construction sites.
-
Coordinates with research team members schedules to visit construction sites.

Safely takes research team members to and from construction sites.

Help research team members gather data, videos, images, etc. while on site.
Coordinates with project representatives for field sites
-
Contact construction project representatives to coordinate site visits and explain the scope of the research work.

Establish an expected date for the site visit and understand all visit protocols.
Identify Civil Construction Sites and Active Construction for Training Development

Reviews civil construction plan sets and pays estimates to determine the scope of work, and which activities are currently active.

Identify the location of each potential project, the owner, and prime contractor, and find contact information.

Presents potential projects to the research group to identify field visits.
Review training material for accuracy and practicality
- Review the training materials produced by the research team for field accuracy and practicality.
What You Need To Know
Salary: $40/hour.

Other Details: This is a part-time temporary/casual position not to go past 4.5 months.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, or an engineering related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

4 years of construction materials inspection and testing or civil construction experience.
Preferred Qualifications
-
15 years of construction materials inspection and testing or civil construction experience.
-
2 years of experience as a construction inspector on civil construction projects.
-
5 years of experience working in the research field (this experience can occur concurrently with the 15 years of experience in the field).
-
5 years of experience working with undergraduate and/or graduate students.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-
Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff.
-
Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs.
-
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
