Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Data Reporting & Business Systems Lead Analyst within the Research Development & Engagement Office, the Sponsored Research Reporting & Systems Administrator will be responsible for reporting related to sponsored research for the institution. In addition, this position will collaborate with the university’s IT financial systems team on internal systems related to lifecycle sponsored programs management to ensure accurate data reporting. The position will also be responsible for the evaluation, testing, and functional support of systems used by the Division of Research to ensure data integrity.

Sponsored Research Data Analysis & Reporting (50%)

  • Assist with ongoing data analysis and reporting activities for internal and external constituents.

  • Generate all lifecycle sponsored program reports including proposal and award tracking and reporting, UNC System office reporting, financial reporting, and requested ad hoc reporting.

  • Analyze sponsored research data to identify inconsistencies, trends, reporting issues, and opportunities for process or system improvements.

  • Work with internal offices and stakeholders on high-level sponsored program activities involving technology transfer, compliance, legal, academic affairs, and other areas that rely on research administration data.

  • Support the development, maintenance, and validation of reports used to monitor sponsored research activities and inform institutional decision-making.

  • Collaborate with the Data Reporting and Business Systems team to ensure that research administration data is accurate, reliable, and appropriately represented in reports and other analytical products.

Business Analysis & Sponsored Research Systems & Financial Applications (25%)

  • Partner with OneIT, campus stakeholders, and Division of Research subject matter experts to analyze business needs and resolve issues involving systems that support the post-award lifecycle of sponsored programs.

  • Work with the OneIT Financial Systems Support Team to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to sponsored research awards in Banner in order to maintain accurate data for reporting.

  • Serve as the primary lead for account code and program code issues associated with sponsored awards in Banner and NinerResearch. Develop processes to correct related errors.

  • Work with OneIT and other campus stakeholders to identify and resolve data reporting and system issues in Banner, including errors in Data Integrity reports, PIFA reports, and sponsored award grant numbers.

  • Work with Division of Research subject matter experts to assess how system implementations and integrations may impact proposals, awards, and financial compliance data.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and system capabilities to identify opportunities to improve reporting needs and streamline data entry processes to support future organizational needs.

Testing, Quality Assurance & Technical Support (25%)

  • Develop and execute testing plans and strategies for eRA modules and related systems to ensure sponsored research data accuracy and integrity.

  • Coordinate with the Data Reporting & Business Systems Lead Analyst, IT teams, and Division of Research subject matter experts to test system changes, enhancements, implementations, and integrations prior to production deployment.

  • Evaluate system changes for potential impacts to research administration processes, financial transactions, reporting, and compliance.

  • Provide technical and functional support to users and subject matter experts and coordinate issue resolution across functional and technical teams as it relates to sponsored research data.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience / Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2+ years of progressively responsible experience in research administration, business systems analysis, information technology, financial systems, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience within higher education of government accounting

  • Knowledge of research administration, SQL , eRA systems, and Banner.

  • Experience in data analysis, report development, databases, and software applications.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders at all levels

  • Strong problem-solving, project management, and time management skills.
