Purpose

Coordinate and lead daily workflow activities for the Survey and Utility Locate teams, ensuring projects are effectively planned, staffed, tracked, and delivered on schedule. Serve as a key liaison among field personnel, project managers, clients, and internal stakeholders to drive operational efficiency, project success, and continuous improvement across survey operations.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Perform work under limited supervision, exercising independent judgment in coordinating survey and utility locate projects, priorities, and resources.

  • Provide guidance, training, and day-to-day support to Project Coordinators and field personnel.

  • Review work produced by junior staff to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards.

  • Assist management in establishing workload priorities, process improvements, and operational objectives.

  • Promote collaboration, accountability, and a culture of safety and quality throughout the team.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Act as a primary liaison between Survey, Utility Locate, Project Management, and other internal departments to ensure successful project execution.

  • Collaborate with clients, subcontractors, utility owners, and regulatory agencies to support project requirements and delivery schedules.

  • Analyze project workload, staffing needs, and productivity metrics to optimize resource allocation.

  • Support strategic initiatives and operational improvements that enhance project efficiency and client satisfaction.

  • Assist leadership with business development activities, proposal preparation, and client relationship management.

Do the Work

  • Lead coordination and management of survey and utility locate project workflows from project initiation through completion.

  • Monitor daily production metrics, project schedules, deliverables, and team utilization to ensure project goals are achieved.

  • Coordinate multiple concurrent projects while maintaining schedule, budget, and quality objectives.

  • Develop, maintain, and update project tracking systems, schedules, and reports.

  • Facilitate project kickoff meetings and maintain ongoing communication with project stakeholders regarding progress, risks, and resource needs.

  • Track project milestones, monitor scope changes, and proactively address scheduling conflicts or operational challenges.

  • Coordinate with field crews and office staff to ensure survey assignments, utility locate requests, and deliverables are properly prioritized and executed.

  • Assist in workforce planning, equipment scheduling, and resource deployment to maximize productivity.

  • Maintain project documentation, contract records, permits, and other project-related files in accordance with company standards.

  • Reconcile project databases, monitor data quality, and ensure reporting accuracy.

  • Serve as a primary client point of contact for project coordination, status updates, and issue resolution.

  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of project management processes and workflow procedures.

  • Track, assign, and maintain inventory of survey equipment, utility locating equipment, vehicles, and related assets.

Escalate project risks, resource constraints, and operational concerns to leadership with recommended solutions.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, project scopes, and operational requirements.

  • Demonstrated leadership, accountability, and sound decision-making skills.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in business, geospatial sciences or related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Eight or more (8+) years of related experience (ideally in professional services).

  • Previous experience coordinating multiple projects, field crews, and operational resources preferred.

  • Working knowledge of surveying, utility locating, right-of-way, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), or related professional services preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Experience utilizing project management software, scheduling tools, databases, and reporting systems.

  • Strong spreadsheet, reporting, and data management capabilities.

  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  • Partly outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.

  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.

  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.

  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.

  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.

  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
