Full job description

As a Senior Product Design Team Lead at Art of Problem Solving (AoPS), you'll be a hands-on design leader who owns meaningful design work while coaching a small team of product designers. You'll shape product experiences that inspire and develop the next generation of problem solvers, combining exceptional design craft, strong product judgment, and people leadership to deliver impactful customer and learning experiences.

The Senior Product Design Team Lead will:

  • Lead design for complex product experiences, owning the end-to-end design process and outcomes while shaping product direction in partnership with Product and Engineering.

  • Set a high bar for design quality, bringing strong visual and interaction design craft, deep user understanding, and sound judgment to your own work and that of your team.

  • Drive user-centered, evidence-based design decisions, using research, product data, and experimentation to identify opportunities, validate solutions, and continuously improve experiences.

  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships, communicating a compelling design point of view, navigating tradeoffs, and driving alignment across teams.

  • Coach and manage a small team of 2–3 designers, providing thoughtful critique, actionable feedback to elevate their craft, judgment, and impact.

  • Partner with other senior designers to shape and evolve a shared design system, developing scalable patterns and standards that bring our new brand to life and create cohesive experiences across products.

  • Improve team effectiveness, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and rapid iteration while supporting team planning, prioritization, and hiring.

The ideal candidate has:

  • 5+ years of experience in Product Design, UX/UI, or Interaction Design, with a portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual and interaction design, systems thinking, and user-centered problem solving.

  • Proven ability to independently lead complex product initiatives from problem framing through implementation, navigate ambiguity, and deliver high-quality experiences with measurable user and business impact.

  • Strong product judgment and ability to influence product direction through deep user understanding, research, and data.

  • Experience developing scalable design patterns and contributing to design systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop other designers, provide effective design critique, and raise the quality of team output.

  • Strong collaborative leadership, with the ability to communicate a compelling design point of view, engage constructively in disagreements, and build alignment with stakeholders at all levels.

  • A growth mindset grounded in curiosity, openness to feedback, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous improvement for themselves and their team.
