Job Title: Construction Project ManagerJob Description

The Construction Project Manager oversees large, complex federal construction projects from inception through closeout, with full ownership of schedule, budget, contracts, and profit and loss performance. This role leads project teams, manages key project stakeholders, and ensures all work meets stringent federal and highly regulated project requirements while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead large construction projects end to end, taking full responsibility for planning, execution, and successful completion.

  • Own project schedule, budget, contracts, and overall profit and loss performance for assigned projects.

  • Manage federal construction projects and other highly regulated work, including DOD and SCIF-type environments, ensuring strict compliance with all requirements.

  • Develop and manage Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) proposals and oversee contract administration throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Lead subcontractor buyout, including scope definition, bid review, negotiation, and award of subcontracts.

  • Oversee and approve change order pricing and execution, ensuring accurate documentation and timely resolution of scope changes.

  • Implement and maintain rigorous cost control processes, including tracking, forecasting, and reporting on project financials.

  • Prepare and review Work in Progress (WIP) reports to accurately reflect project status and financial performance.

  • Create, update, and manage project schedules, preferably using Primavera P6, to keep projects on track with key milestones.

  • Coordinate closely with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to align expectations and resolve issues proactively.

  • Provide strong leadership to project teams, working closely with Superintendents, Preconstruction, and field staff to ensure cohesive project delivery.

  • Ensure all project documentation, compliance requirements, and reporting meet federal and internal standards.

  • Manage risk assessment and compliance tracking, identifying potential issues early and implementing mitigation strategies.

  • Oversee project closeout, including punch lists, documentation, and turnover to the client, ensuring a smooth and professional handoff.

  • Utilize Procore and MS Office tools to manage project documentation, communication, and reporting.

  • Travel approximately once a month for about three days at a time to project sites or meetings as required.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a Construction Project Manager.

  • Proven experience managing construction projects of at least $10M in value, with at least three projects at or above this level and ideally several in the $1520M range.

  • Federal construction project management experience, with USACE project exposure strongly preferred.

  • Experience with highly regulated project environments such as DOD, SCIF, or similar secure or compliance-driven projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to own budgeting, cost control, and full P&L responsibility for projects.

  • Strong skills in GMP development and contract administration.

  • Proficiency in subcontractor buyout, including negotiation and ongoing subcontractor management.

  • Expertise in change order pricing, documentation, and execution.

  • Solid schedule management skills, with Primavera P6 experience preferred.

  • Ability to coordinate effectively with clients, architects, owners, and subcontractors.

  • Proficiency with Procore construction management software.

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications for communication, analysis, and reporting.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and influence cross-functional project teams.

  • Ability to pass a background investigation and drug screening.

  • Willingness and ability to travel once a month for approximately three days at a time.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management or Engineering.

  • Experience working within a structured federal project environment with defined processes and expectations.

  • Strong risk assessment and compliance tracking capabilities.

  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented culture with clear roles and responsibilities.

  • Comfort interacting directly with owners, architects, and subcontractors in a professional and solutions-focused manner.

  • Experience working with an established general contractor environment that emphasizes planning, buyout, risk management, and thorough closeout.

  • Interest in long-term career growth within a company known for low turnover and long-tenured employees.

  • Alignment with a culture that values integrity, teamwork, and strong client relationships.

Work Environment

The role is primarily office-based with regular visits to active jobsites and offers flexibility to work from multiple Colorado office locations, with a strong preference for Colorado Springs and options in Centennial or Fort Collins. You will work standard business hours, with workload and intensity varying based on project phase and key milestones. The environment is collaborative and team-oriented, with clearly defined roles and responsibilities and close partnership with Superintendents, Preconstruction, and field teams. You will interact directly with owners, architects, and subcontractors in a professional, relationship-focused setting. Projects operate within a structured federal framework, with established processes, systems, and tools that support consistent, high-quality project delivery. The company culture emphasizes planning over firefighting, clear accountability, and investment in robust processes rather than chaos. Leadership is accessible and engaged, and projects are well-staffed so Project Managers receive strong support rather than working in isolation. A monthly vehicle allowance is provided to support travel to project sites and meetings.
