Job Summary
TheSchool of Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi (https://www.usm.edu/psychology/index.php) (USM) invites applicants for two full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor positions beginning August 2027. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic scientist-practitioner, APA-accredited Clinical Psychology doctoral training program in the School of Psychology. TheClinical Psychology program (https://www.usm.edu/graduate-programs/psychology-clinical.php) emphasizes research mentorship and training in evidence-based practices, and our faculty value collegiality and a collaborative, supportive work environment. We offer training concentrations in child and adult clinical psychology. Research and applied interests are open; we are interested in considering applicants who can contribute to either adult or child concentrations. Our faculty have established records of scholarship in neurodevelopmental disorders, clinical health psychology, alcohol and other drug use, identity and mental health disparities, trauma and adversity, neuropsychological assessment, measurement development, and child/adolescent externalizing behavior. We seek applicants who are eager to advance their program of research and provide high-quality research mentorship to graduate students. Southern Miss offers exceptional institutional support and college-level assistance in securing external funding, and faculty research benefits from access to a large undergraduate research participation pool.
Our doctoral students provide psychological services through theCenter for Behavioral Health (CBH) (https://www.usm.edu/behavioral-health/index.php) , which is an integrated in-house training clinic staffed by students and faculty from the School, Counseling, and Clinical Psychology training programs. The CBH offers assessment and treatment services to diverse clientele from the community and allows for close supervision of student clinicians by program faculty, supported by the CBH’s state-of-the-art video system. Student clinicians also receive supervised experience serving community clients in a range of external practicum placements (e.g., acute inpatient unit, VA hospitals, medical centers, serious mental illness specialty program, juvenile justice, child advocacy center, schools, private practice). We hope to recruit applicants interested in providing clinical supervision of practicum students in our in-house training clinic. Though not requiring postdoctoral hours, opportunities for peer supervision during the licensure process in Mississippi (including mentorship, professional development) are available from licensed faculty. Additional research mentoring is available through the tenure and promotion process.
The Clinical Psychology program is one of four doctoral programs in the School of Psychology. The School of Psychology has approximately 600 undergraduate majors and 125 graduate students across three APA-accredited doctoral programs (Counseling, Clinical, & School), a doctoral program in Experimental Psychology and an MPCAC-accredited Master’s program in Counseling Psychology. Qualified applicants will be prepared to contribute to the teaching mission of the School of Psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty have ample opportunities for professional development in teaching, mentoring, scholarship, and leadership through the University’sCenter for Faculty Development (https://www.usm.edu/faculty-development/index.php) .
