The Idaho Transportation Department is looking to fill a key engineering position in our Planning and Scoping Group for our District 6, Rigby office.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
-
Study crash data, investigate traffic problems, and build safety plans for dangerous intersections.

Analyze, study and evaluate intersections for signal warrants.

Review private development plans and engineering designs for traffic impacts
-
Inspect traffic control devices, signs, and signals to make sure they follow MUTCD rules
-
Analyze crash data to identify safety concerns, perform speed studies and other engineering evaluations.

Requires a broad knowledge of precedents of engineering discipline

May supervise professional staff and/or a large number of technical staff
-
Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work, as part of a major project or a total project of moderate scope
Our engineering positions are part of a Technical Engineering Services Lead (TESL) Horizontal Career Path. This structured program combines on-the-job training, classroom learning, and team milestones to fast-track your professional and financial growth.
As a licensed professional engineer, you will enter at the Staff Engineer level.
As an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) you will enter at the Engineer Intern level.
After successful completion of each step, wages may increase as outlined below:

Engineer Intern – starting wage: $31.75

Associate Engineer - starting wage: $34.38
-
Staff Engineer - starting wage: $38.04 - $40.56

Staff Engineer 1 - starting wage: $40.56

Technical Engineer Services Leader - completion wage: $44.91
Technical Engineering Services Lead (TESL) engineers are considered fully competent professional engineers, capable of performing all the conventional aspects of engineering of the functional areas of responsibility of the discipline involved. Candidates will be expected to independently evaluate, select, and adapt situations, and modify techniques, procedures, and criteria to solve problems encountered. Some positions involve extensive travel and frequent overnight stays; being on call and responding to emergencies at any time. The physical ability to walk over rough terrain, climb ladders and lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds is required. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is a positive attribute.
The successful candidate will be required to pass a driver’s record review.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR STAFF LEVEL

Licensure: Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE); or eligible for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12

Experience: analyzing, interpreting and applying federal, state and local laws when applying professional engineering principles and practices; writing technical engineering reports; evaluating, selecting and adapting standard engineering plans, specifications and standards in completing projects; coordinating field work and inspecting projects or facilities for compliance with standards

Valid driver's license
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR INTERN LEVEL ENGINEERS
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria within 6 months of employment offer: (One of the three bulleted criteria below must be completed before the start of employment)

Certification by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers as an Engineer-In-Training

OR Certification as an EIT from another jurisdiction that included graduation from a four-year engineering curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET)

OR graduation from a four-year engineering curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) PLUS verification that the candidate has passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination

Valid driver's license
