Full job description

A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Senior Combustion Engineer, you will develop and improve combustion-system hardware for utility-scale gas turbines. You will evaluate flow distribution, mixing, pressure loss, heat transfer, thermal behavior, emissions, and thermoacoustic response. Working with design, test, manufacturing, and field organizations, you will translate analysis results and operating evidence into robust hardware designs, technical recommendations, and validation plans for F-Class, G-Class, and HL-Class gas turbines.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Perform CFD and combustion-aerodynamics analyses to evaluate reacting and non-reacting flow, fuel-air mixing, pressure loss, emissions behavior, and thermal loading in gas turbine combustion systems.

  • Develop and assess combustion hardware concepts using fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, turbomachinery, and mechanical-system integration principles.

  • Use Siemens NX, STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Workbench, or comparable tools to create models, perform analyses, interpret results, and document engineering conclusions.

  • Integrate analytical, validation, and field data to support hardware qualification, technical risk assessment, root cause analysis, and design improvement.

  • Define analysis and validation needs for new or modified combustion hardware and support technical reviews of assumptions, boundary conditions, methods, and results.

  • Work with manufacturing, test, field-service, and design teams to resolve combustion-system issues and implement practical hardware solutions.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline; a master’s degree or Ph.D. is preferred.

  • 5 + years of experience in gas turbine combustion design, combustion aerodynamics, CFD, thermal-fluid analysis, testing and validation of combustion system.

  • Working knowledge of reacting or non-reacting CFD, heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, combustion dynamics, thermoacoustics, and emissions formation.

  • Ability to develop appropriate computational models, define boundary conditions, assess mesh and model sensitivity, evaluate numerical results, and recognize limitations or uncertainty.

  • Experience applying analysis results to combustion hardware design, hardware qualification, failure investigation, root cause analysis, or technical risk assessment.

  • Experience with engineering software such as Siemens NX, Teamcenter, STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Workbench

  • Understanding of utility-scale gas turbine systems; experience with F-Class, G-Class, or HL-Class gas turbines is beneficial.

  • Ability to collaborate across design, test, manufacturing, and field organizations and convert complex technical results into clear engineering recommendations.

  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.

  • Travel up to 20%
