Full job description
Description We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations for a growing team. This contract opportunity is ideal for someone who brings strong payroll processing experience, enjoys resolving discrepancies, and can step in quickly to help maintain accurate and timely pay practices. The role combines hands-on payroll administration with detailed reconciliation work, and offers a hybrid-to-remote arrangement with initial onsite setup and check-related office support as needed.
Responsibilities:

Process semi-monthly payroll activities for an employee population of approximately 265 team members, ensuring accuracy and timeliness throughout each cycle.

Review, reconcile, and correct payroll deductions, earnings, and premium-related records to bring accounts up to date and maintain reliable tracking.

Investigate payroll variances and resolve inconsistencies by working through calculations, supporting records, and benefit-related details.

Maintain organized payroll documentation and tracking files to support reporting, auditing, and ongoing payroll accuracy.

Use payroll systems such as QuickBooks Desktop or Paylocity to enter, validate, and manage payroll data efficiently.

Coordinate with internal stakeholders to address payroll questions, clarify discrepancies, and support smooth payroll operations.

Assist with check printing and related in-office payroll tasks when required.

Participate in onboarding and training activities, including an in-person first day for equipment setup followed by virtual training support. Requirements • Demonstrated experience handling full-cycle payroll processing in a detail-focused business environment.

Prior responsibility for payroll for at least 50 employees; experience supporting a workforce of around 265 employees is strongly preferred.

Hands-on experience with semi-monthly payroll schedules and associated reconciliation work.

Proficiency with QuickBooks Desktop or Paylocity, with strong preference for candidates who have used one or both systems directly.

Solid background in reconciling payroll deductions, earnings, and premium-related items with a high level of accuracy.

Ability to work effectively with a team, communicate clearly, and adapt quickly in a fast-moving environment.

Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and the ability to manage sensitive payroll information confidentially.
