Full job description

Description

Amazon's Worldwide Environmental Assurance and Protection (EAP) team is responsible for ensuring that Amazon's global operation is the benchmark for environmental excellence across all similar industries. EAP transforms environmental regulatory compliance into a zero-defect process through scalable, sustainable, and technology-enabled solutions that protect the business, our communities, and the environment.

The Regional Environmental Manager, EAP leads a team of field environmental managers responsible for driving regulatory compliance across the sites in their region. This leader translates the organization's environmental compliance plans into regional execution, sets priorities for their team, and holds site and operations partners accountable to compliance milestones through regular program controllership mechanisms. They develop the people on their team, build bench strength through hiring and coaching, and embed environmental compliance into the day-to-day operating rhythm of the sites they support.

The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in environmental regulatory compliance combined with the people leadership capability to grow and direct a field team. They communicate technical compliance requirements clearly to site leaders, operations partners, and legal stakeholders, and use data and business intelligence to find gaps, prioritize fixes, and improve conformance across their region.

This role requires sound independent judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to run the right mechanisms and manage team priorities to meet compliance objectives in a dynamic, high-growth operations environment. If you are motivated by solving regulatory problems in the field and building a strong environmental compliance team, this role is for you.

Key job responsibilities

  • Drive environmental regulatory compliance across the sites in your region, aligning your team's priorities to the organization's compliance plans and the OP1, OP2, and quarterly planning cycles.

  • Translate media-specific compliance programs and field execution frameworks into regional execution, adapting them to the sites and conditions you support.

  • Manage your team's resource allocation and input to annual operating plans, balancing immediate compliance obligations against the work needed to build durable site capability.

  • Operate program controllership mechanisms that drive speed, quality, and accountability across your team and site partners, surfacing and mitigating compliance risk early.

  • Communicate compliance status, risks, and escalations clearly and concisely to senior leaders and partners across Operations, Legal, Finance, and Technology.

  • Partner with Amazon Legal, state and local regulators, environmental consultants, and technology teams to resolve compliance barriers at the regional and site level and reduce manual effort in compliance execution.

  • Track your region against KPI and compliance metric frameworks, using the data to find gaps, prioritize fixes, and report milestone and regulatory posture across your sites.

  • Lead the talent management lifecycle for your team, including hiring, onboarding, and structured development planning that builds depth and capability.

  • Oversee work performed by third-party contractors, consultants, and inspection vendors in your region, holding them accountable to milestones and quality standards through structured audit and governance mechanisms.

  • Exercise sound independent judgment in an ambiguous, high-stakes regulatory environment, choosing the right mechanisms and team priorities to deliver compliance outcomes.

  • Embed environmental compliance into the day-to-day operating rhythm of the sites you support.

  • Travel expected up to 25-50% of the time.

A day in the life

This role will be based in the United States and will report to the Business Environmental Leader. Travel to Amazon sites within the region is expected up to 50% of the time and 5 days/week in office. The REM will partner with the operations leadership teams to execute company environmental procedures and ensure compliance with all applicable specific Federal, State and Local regulations. The REM will deliver a strategy for execution, supported by the EAP leadership team.
