Full job description

Description

Robert Half has partnered with well-established national defense practice in San Diego, California. We have placed people with this firm's other Southern California offices and the feedback is consistent: people are nice, partners have time to mentor and collaborate, and the firm offers great resources so people can focus on practicing.

This opportunity is ideal for a litigation attorney who wants meaningful responsibility, hands-on case work, and the support of a collaborative office environment. The role will encompass broad general liability litigation, offering exposure to cases from initial filing through resolution or trial. Attorneys in this position will work in a hybrid setting with regular in-office collaboration and access to mentorship, firmwide resources, and a strong collaborative community.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a litigation caseload from intake through trial preparation and resolution, handling matters with increasing independence based on experience level.

  • Conduct all phases of discovery, including drafting written discovery, reviewing responses, and preparing for and taking depositions.

  • Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal filings that support case strategy and meet court deadlines.

  • Appear in court for hearings, conferences, and other proceedings, and represent clients effectively in all interactions.

  • Communicate regularly with clients, insurance carriers, opposing counsel, and internal stakeholders regarding case developments and strategy.

  • Handle matters involving general liability disputes such as premises, traffic, and construction, and other types of litigation cases.

  • Track time accurately and meet billable expectations using the firm’s timekeeping and practice management systems.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the San Diego, California office and the broader national platform to develop litigation strategy and share knowledge.

Requirements

  • Active license to practice law and good standing in the applicable jurisdiction.

  • At least 1 year of experience handling civil litigation matters.

  • Demonstrated ability to draft motions, briefs, pleadings, and other litigation documents.

  • Experience managing discovery and participating in depositions, including defending or taking witness testimony.

  • Working knowledge of general liability, premises liability, construction-related disputes, or toxic tort litigation.

  • Strong courtroom, communication, and case management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment with regular in-office attendance in San Diego, California.
